Handsome Spike! Don't be worrying your purrents like that.
You know, when Rutherford blocked recently, that was when I found out that most blockages are NOT from stones/crystals, but rather mucus plugs (etc.)
So what will you need to do to try to prevent this from happening again? Did they say?
Prayers for a speedy recovery.
Poor Spike. :( I'm glad that you noticed this as soon as you did. I hope he'll feel better soon and recover quickly. Please continue to keep us updated about him and take care.
Spike was a bad boy at the vet (reason he's named Spike). He pulled his catheter out Saturday night and the vets found him this way Sunday morning. Luckily he did pee on his own during this time. They decided to leave it out to see if he continues to go on his own. Otherwise he's doing much better. :)
OY! Naughty boy!!! Glad he could pee on his own, though. Maybe he was thinking "HEY! I gotta pee! How am I going to do that with this THING in me??" ;)
Ha! Guess Spike figures he didn't need that anymore and just yanked it right out! Ha! Good going Spike, you had to go potty and that was in your way! I am glad to hear he is doing better and "going" on his own.
Oh Lisa, I am so sorry to hear he's blocked. I am currently going through my own blocking trauma here with Pouncer. I'll keep Spike in my thoughts and prayers today... thought it sounds as if he's back to his old self!
PS: Isn't it great knowing you KNOW your cats? (((hugs)))
My Max had the very same problem and exact symptoms you described a couple of years ago. He spent 6 days being an in patient before things righted themself. Thankfully no recurrence since but I do ask him persistently to 'let me know if the pee pees are hurting'. here's hoping for a speedy recovery for poor Spike and we wish him well, poor, poor boy :(
Nawtee Spike. Maybe he'll recover faster than everyone thought. :) Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent his way for a full and speedy recovery.
I'm glad to hear that Spike is doing better already, and that he could pee on his own, without the catheter!
A speedy recovery to him!
Kirsten
Ahhhh, I don't think Spike was trying to be nawtee at all! He was just trying to prove that he was feeling much better, so he could come home soon!!! ;)
Glad he is doing well!
Kim
*Update* Spike will have to remain at the vets at least through tomorrow. Blood work came back with a high kidney count (which can be typical with this problem) so they want to run more blood work tomorrow to make sure it is going back to the normal range. They did say he's eating well and doing well though.
Lisa, what a great meowmie you are to know your babies when something isn't quite right with them.
I'm glad to hear that Spike, who is such a handsome fella, is dong much better.
I pray that his kidneys go back to the normal range and that he will be back home with you real soon.
Good thing you caught it! I'm glad your kitty Spike is doing so well!
Lisa, I'm glad to hear that Spike's doing well and hopefully his blood work will come back within the normal range so he'll be able to come home. More prayers and positive thoughts are being sent his way. Please take care.
