Her previous owner doesn't sound like a very responsible person.. that's such a shame. :(
She CAN get cancer, yes. And so could the male. But by having them both fixed you greatly decrease the risk, if not eliminate it all together! :)

Well, if she's gone into heat and had babies already than the risk is only going to be reduced by spaying. But if they take out the entire uterus than they can't possibly get that kind of cancer (uterine and ovarian). Dogs get all sorts of cancers. You should spay anyway though.

yeah but having them akc registered doesn't mean anything!!!! (just that there purebred's but i know mix breeds that hjave been excepted as purebreds because they look like them)
If you have NO plans for showing or breeding, PLEASE have them fixed. PLEASE.
