Great pics, good job all of you.
I am so jealous.
Looks like it was a fun day. I've had the shelties out on sheep before. Clipse didn't care too much he mostly wanted to be with me so I had a lot of backing up and running to do to keep him on the other side of the sheep....lol
And Em just wanted to play with the instructor's dog at first, but then she realized those sheep would run from her and she had a blast. She even stood her ground when a ewe challenged her.
I wish we had more opportunities to learn herding but most people around here only work with border collies.
that sounds familier lol when Misty is scared she wants to stay by my side, she was very intrested in the sheep lol just a little intimidated, so I was being told "wherever Misty goes, you run away from her" ...easier said then done... lol Misty was trained starting at 8 weeks old that when I run away from her she is to chase me, now all of a sudden she had to learn that my running from her meant "stay away" I think she was just a little confused ;)Quote:

go BCs go
Those are great pics! I really love Ted's face. I'd love to have seen them all in action in person. I used to watch the herding trials at the county fair when I lived in MO, always impressed to see the dogs in action :)
Cool herding pictures.
I love watching a dog at work.
That is great! Beautiful pictures. Looks like they had a great time. I don't mean to sound ignorant but will they be doing this regularly (like a job) or was this just a chance to let them do what they were bred to do?
I don't think Sadie would want me to find out that some dogs actually work but this type of work she might enjoy.
very cool, Ty and Sparky are both odd-eyed!
in this case it was just a herding clinic, just a chance to see how they would do on sheep, this clinic was my grad gift from my dad, I have wanted to try herding my my gals for years but something has always come up and I would not get to go for one reason or another, my favorite things to do are things that make my border babes happy. I will most certainly have sheep for em to work in the future, but for now this was the closest I could get, because to me there is NOTHING more beautiful then watching a dog do what it was bred to do, I just cant stop gazing at the pictures, and remeber what it was like to actually be able to do this :)
really cool pictures! You can tell Happy was really into it-- I'm always so amazed to see dogs do what their breed does best - watcing herders herd, sporting dogs hunt, huskies pull - you can see how well they are suited for it and all the little behaviors that add to their skill- thanks for sharing your pics with us!
I love seeing Misty & Happy - they are such beautiful dogs!
