Zella had better be careful about chasing away those seagulls. She just might take a mighty leap and then come down to find there is no boat beneath her! (a fishing cat of my acquaintance did this very thing - and wound up taking a dive off the boat into Prince William Sound).
Of course, maybe that's how Zella catches her rays. Perhaps she leaps for a gull, then dives into the water, swims to the bottom, and then snatches the poor, unsuspecting ray from the depths and drags it up to the boat.
I suspect these are small rays that she catches. I think she would have a hard time with mantas.
It is good that she is there, bringing her warmths to my neighbors down in B.C.

Aye aye, Zella! Ship's Cat is a very important position and you're taking it as seriously as you should, keeping those gulls off your boat. If you catch one, will you have it keelhauled?
