... I think the snowplow man hides around the corner and
waits until I'm done shoveling this driveway, the jerk!
... If I ever get my hands on that son of a _itch who drives
that snowplow, I swear I'll break the :eek:'s nose! ...

Back in the 70's, when it *REALLY SNOWED* :eek: around here,
the FD BrushFire Truck wore a SNOWplow in the winter and
was used to keep the Station and Volunteers' driveways plowed out.
RB :( Shadow and had I decided to "camp out" in the Station for one
of the Blizard nights.
I fired up "Snow 33" about 9 PM to clear better than 6 :eek: feet
of snow piling up between the Station and the State Highway...
It was SLOW goin - an hour's plowing had only opend a tiny slot
across the drive in front of the Station's 3 doors out by the Highway.
I vaguely remember the State's BIG "SnowPlow Harry" blow by
headed west - throwing a MOUNTAIN of snow - the Memorial across
the street went "dark" ... burried under a ton of snow...
Figgered I had 20 minutes to get outta harm's way before "Harry" got
to the County line, turned around, and returned to plow the eastbound
lane on MY side of the road...
I couldn't see the back bumper in the mirror for all the blowin snow;
so I "cracked" the window to "lissin" for "Harry's" return... :rolleyes:
(Yeah, right! SNOW mutes even a big roaring diesel snowplow!)
**WHUMMP!!**
The pickup cab filled with snow - it got REEL *dark* -
an poor lil "33" quit movin... Uhhh-Ohhhh...
I cleaned my glasses and tried to get out...
Driver's door wouldn't *budge*;
passenger door wouldn't either... rolled down the passenger window
and snow ROLLED IN! :eek:
Minutes ticked by as I tried to think of what to try next...
I heard a muffled voice outside...
HEY! Are you OK!??
The side window began to clear... I could see a big scoop shovel
working frantically to clear away a HUGE mound of snow...
Finally the door was opened - by Ohio's version of "SnowPlow Harry" :D
He'd seen my truck's *blinkin lights* just as they disappeared under
the wall of snow his blade was throwing and turned around to come
back - fearing the worst.
He was very relieved to learn he hadn't "hit" me!
"That's our worst fear on nights like this - that'l we'll
*hit* someone that we can't see for all the snow flying off the plow!
Heck - I can't see the Bulldog's A$$ on the hood of the truck!!" :p
I offered "Harry" some coffee and warmth in the Station;
but he thought we'd better "dig out" the Fire Truck first!
"Stand aside! I'll have it out in a minute or two!"
Like a surgeon with a knife, "Harry" sliced & diced the mountain
of snow he'd dumped around and on the poor lil pickup;
then told me to put it back in the Station to "defrost" and that
He & the Bulldog would clean up around the Fire Station.
"SnowPlow Harry" drops in on snowy nights when he sees
lights on in the Station... We hear the "rumble" as the Bulldog's
big blade make two passes around the Station followed by
a Knock on the door.
"Coffee on?? I had to stop to clean my windows and mirrors."
Coffee finished; he leaves with a reminder that
"If anybody asks what I was doin - "cleanin my windows" - and
I musta "furgot" to pick up the plow and shut off the salt spreader!" :D
**THANKS** to ALL the "SnowPlow Harrys" out there this winter!!
;)
