I drive by the L.A. Zoo almost every morning and I remembered this...
There is one zoo that freezes treats for the polar bears in huge blocks of ice.....they drop the treats into the water for them...
AHA!!
Here we go!!!

Oh, those are GREAT pictures! I wish they'd do something like that around here. There's a free (admission) zoo in Madison, WI where that would be very beneficial to the animals. However, Matthew & I went there last week & didn't even see any elephants that time....maybe they got rid of them!:( I REALLY enjoyed the pictures though!:)

RICHARD......LOVE that picture....oh, aren't animals amazing!?
Though i'm against caging animals it's still very sweet the fact that there is a day where treats are distributed to Elephants and so on.
And Slick, please don't grumble that in your region nothing ever happens, where just a drive away you can catch up.......I live in a COUNTRY which is also an ISLAND!!!!!
I did visit though that particular Zoo in Washington DC, when I was in the US in 2001, I remember the chimp who was free to go from one pole to another without being confined behind bars. That I liked :) That was if I remember well Sept. 13 or 14th, since we where grounded and could not fly to Los Angeles as we where supposed to on Sept. the 11th as you all know why:(
You US Citizens are funny though. I still remember the look a waitress gave me when I ordered a coffee. Ok let me explain this: So I went to this cafe in NY and ordered a coffee, the waitress asked me: 'Black?' And I said "No white please' Her eyes looked like  'Then if illuminated from beyond she said in a questioning tone 'Oh! Coffee and cream???!!! If a coffee without milk its called black coffee, therefore a coffee with milk can also be called white, no?
What do you say? :p
Welcome K674! Welcome to the madness of PetTalk. I'm a bit familiar with your beautiful island of Malta, and not just from the movie. Next time you are in the U.S. let us know.. no matter where you go there is bound to be a PetTalker around to welcome you with open paws :D If I had known you were "stranded" in my city of Washington DC during those horrible days you could have come over to my own zoo and stayed with us.
That is the wormest welcome I ever received  :D
Thanks a million Ibaker I will surley let you all know if I'm around :D
Which movie did you watch that features Malta? Gladiator? Troy? or something different?
The Maltese Falcon :D And by the way, it's L Baker (Laurie Baker). Don't worry.. everyone seems to make the same assumption. I just typed it in with lower case letters when I first joined up. I have, now, six dogs, 5 cats and a snake. That's what I meant by "my zoo". Also, my son and his wife and their two teenage sons (my step-grandsons). Now is THAT a zoo or what? :D
Laurie
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
One great movie you chose ;)
And sorry Laurie for the mistake ;)
About the zoo issue, that type of zoo is my favourite;) :D No cage bars what so ever, everyone co-living under the same roof. That is really a cool zoo :p
