I think the organization is just using nice photos on thier site but when I go to a rescue site I would like to see photos of the animals that are up for adoption.
Unfortunately I don't know of any of us here on PT that copywrite our photos....in turn, because they are not copywrited they may just be able to use anyone's photo any way that they want.
It does not hurt to ask and mention that they are using a picture of Peanut on their site and ask them how did they obtain the picture.

I wonder how many inquiries they've received about adopting beautiful Peanut???
Maybe they were just trying to use the cream of the crop pictures on their home page to draw people in and increase their adoptable's chances. Hopefully you can show them the error of their ways and they can get permission to use these.
I can't wait to hear what that organization says .... I remember when I signed up at ImageStation to store my pics there IS a box you check as to whether or not others can see/share/order prints, etc. Of course I know most of us would say no, but sometimes those little waivers can be so poorly written that one doesn't know which to select. Although in this case it looks like out-and-out copying with a little PhotoShop editing. Not good. Are you writing to the webmaster of that site? Are you going to try to adopt that Peanut impurrsonator?
No matter how you look at it..it's fraud!!!
I agree, it is, and I know the subject of copyrighting our pics came up a few years ago, but I just never did anything about it.Quote:

Just adding a line to each pic saying it's copyrighted is usually enough to disuade would be pirates.
And I guess I could get really upset and sue and everything, but it's really not worth all that since they'll probably remove it as soon as I say something. And besides, there a rescue, they have no money, and what little money they have I'd rather see go to rescuing kitties - and taking legitimate pictures - rather than into defending themselves in a lawsuit.
Any updates? Even though this is fraud I still find it kind of funny. How did you run across that rescue site anyhow, out of curiosity?
Your right.I really want the cats adopted, but it would of been easy to be honest as there are so many nice cats to adopt. And I wouldn't want there money spent on anything exept caring and finding homes for them.I don't know why they needed to lie about it since there are so many truthful nice stories. There really are.I adopted 6 out of shelters and most were very sick. And ALL are doing great now.And 4 would of been put down soon if I didn't take them. All they need is pictures and stories from real events. That's why I'm upset because it is so easy to find truthful nice stories. They don't need to do this.
I'm not so sure it would qualify for any kind of copyright violation. Take Google, for example.
If you click on images and type in "cats" or "kittens" you get hundreds of thousands of images of kitties.
If you were to "take" one of those images and put it on another web site (as long as you're not selling it to make a profit), I don't know that there's anything wrong with that.
I would be flattered if they used a photo of one of my kitties, but I think I would like permission first.
What?! Did Peanut sneak and get a side job? I didn't know that he was a super model!
Really, any person with good intentions and common sense would post the actual rescue cat's pictures. That is very misleading to have pictures of other cats posted.
By all means, they have enough adorable kittens up for adoption. They should be using those pictures.
Well, this certainly strange of them! I hope you get an answer. I don't know if I'd call it false advertising or what ??
They shouldn't use the pictures without permission. Surely the have enough pictures of their OWN cats to use instead.
Please keep us posted on what they have to say for themselves.
Please see my replies in the other thread here. It's not just Peanut ...
WHAT JERKS!!!!!!!
How can they have the gull to put those kitties who already have loving homes up there and say they are homeless. I think they need a good dose of legal action. Anyone here a lawyer??????
Let us know what they do about it.
Ok I just called the number, and I got was an answering machine to a lady called Barbara. I left my name and number and asked that she call me so I may be able to come and "adopt" one of the kittens on the website.
I'll let you guys know what I find out.
I got a response, and so did Karen. Go to the thread in general to see them.
