I have never had a real Tree,with The Found Cats,but I remember clearly,when I was young,our Cats scratching the real tree,and occasionally knocking it over.And destroying Hand Made Ornaments,Irreplacable Ones! The only time,that I heard my dear Mother,curse the Cat.But she forgave him,and he got extra Turkey,and Gravy.
I've only ever had an artifical tree. It has to be up high though, on a table where Sash can't get to it. He loves to nibble on artifical plants/flowers, etc. So, I have a small table top tree and a fiber optic I had last year.
I have heard of at least two cases where pets drank the water from the Christmas tree stand and died. :( I'm not sure if the problem was with some of the sap from the tree contaminating the water or if these people added those "tree life extenders" which are toxic. Eating the needles can also prove fatal.
I hope your husband will listen to your concerns.
