Seriously stinky feces

Hi! Felt that I should email you regarding your situation. This is simply my opinion and based upon my past 'stinky kitty' predicament! It's hard not
to laugh...when you first get them home they are just so cute! Until....whew!
I think you mentioned that you have had your baby for a few months, been on some kitten formula, etc. Unfortunately, no matter how well you follow the directions, it's still a stinky outcome. As long as you have gone to the vet and have had his/her system checked out, and everything shows up OK, you are doing the right thing. Kitten's systems take a while to work themselves out. Even when they get older, like my Shep, their systems take a tole on any new food you bring into their environment. Case in point...I purchased a brand of kitty food that was by the same vendor, just a different flavor. Honestly, as I cleaned his litter box, I felt like I was cleaning up after a Frat party at White Castles. Disgusting. The smallest changes will have an effect on their stool.
As for what you should feed him/her on a daily basis....my vet always tells me to give my kitties dry food in the morning, half a can of wet food at night. If you feed a cat only dry food, that could possibly lead to a bladder infection. If you choose to not feed them dry, that could lead to gingivitus, due to the lack of scraping that dry food would have provided. Consult your vet...I am only going on the information that was provided to me.
Bottom line, until you get your baby on a schedule for a few months, they WILL be stinky. But, they are JUST SO CUTE at that age!!!!!! Wear a mask! Hahahahaha.

Breezy-As for your cat's breath, maybe it has a cracked tooth or something stuck between two of them. My dog had the stinkiest breath until I took her in and had her teeth cleaned. Then I stopped feeding her the canned food daily so that the tartar wouldn't build up again.
Your cat may be pooing on the rug in front of the box because it hadn't been fixed. That problem may disappear after having kitty altered. I keep a long flat tray in front of my boxes, (like the kind that come in the bottom of dog cages). It keeps the litter from getting all over the place and I can just pick it up and dump it into their boxes when I clean them.
I changed the type of litter I use and it seemed to cut down a lot on the smell. I buy Fresh Step Scoopable now. It makes it a lot easier to clean and not so stinky. I don't think my kitty knows about covering her litter, but the older cat does. I think either she is teaching the kitten or doing it for her. LOL! Who says you can't teach a stray cat new tricks!:D

Oliver's bad breath comes and goes. I have looked at his teeth and they are pearly white. Nothing stuck in between--just checked. He is only 9 mos old and eats dry food--so far no tarter.

I am going to mention his breath and soft smelly stools to the vet on Weds. I have a feeling he has some of those micro organisms growing in his intestinal tract which de-worming hasn't helped. I've read about antibiotics killing the giardia etc and will find out more this week. Thanks:D

Breezy-Yeah, I have made a few changes lately so I'm not sure which is helping the most. I was feeding the kitten a dry seafood mix and changed to a chicken turkey mix. I don't know which of any of those things has helped, but my nose is glad that something seems to be working. I also thought that perhaps because Wisp was a stray cat that she might not have been eating the right foods and now that she is, her body is getting used to it. I've had her for 3 weeks now, and gave her a deworm pill about 2 weeks ago too, so you can see why I am not sure what is working here. ;)

What FLAVOR is their food?? I know this sounds crazy but when we adopted Lucky from the Humane Society they gave us a free bag of food (forgot the brand name) but it was veal, and let me tell you, he could clear a room! :eek: :eek: He had the smellest farts and poops and it was all related to the veal in the food.

Can you imagine how his poor stomach felt??!! :rolleyes:

Also the cheaper brands of cat food throw in junk filler that may cause this too. Ever since we have switched to Science Diet, the smell has gotten better :rolleyes: not gone, but better. :p
