I love Dobermans too! I hope you can get one when you get to California. Here's one of my rescue transports and I fell in love with him the minute I saw him. I think he's mostly Doberman. He was such a sweet dog. Most transports go in the kennel in the back of the truck. He was so good, that I moved him up front. He kept his head my lap most of the time.

I owned the sister to amoores Hawk, and when we got them they were puppies. If at all possible start out with a puppy. I owned mine for 16 years, more or less. Don't quite remember how long, she was turning very grey when she died. She was a very good dog, one of the best dogs I have ever owned.

I have a blue rescue boy. I also recomend getting your dobie from rescue. The dobe you posted looks very similar to my Pepper, except pep has the 'flying nun' ears;). You can see pics of him at his site http://geocities.com/dobiegirl14/
Dobes are great dogs, they have tons of funny quirks that keep you laughing, are very obedient, sweet, and of course, gorgeous;)

Hey Moose.....good choice of breed;)
I just recently got a black n' rust Dobie boy...he well be a year old this April. He is my first, they have been my dream dog. He is a great puppy...he has his mistakes, but don't they all. They are, like everyone has said, very obedient, very very loving, and smart....almost too much:o If they get bored though....watch old...you'll find some pretty nice holes in the yard!
They get to be very big....the females are slightly smaller though. Keep them socailized too....I found out very quicky..not socializing Colby for just 2 weeks...he didn't trust very many people in the store.
Many people don't agree with cropping n' docking...but I don't see anything wrong with it. I got Colby's ears done....b/c im showing him this summer in Conformation n' personally....I don't think a Dobe looks like a true Dobe if its ears aren't cropped...but thats my opinion.
Heres a few pictures on my boy....
