Boxing/Wrestling-- Right or Wrong?

It's just a sport like any other, except the risk of cauliflower ears and flat noses is high :)

I respect the hard work and discipline that boxers of all kinds put into their sport. They need razor sharp reflexes, be able to anticipate the opponent's movements, all while co-ordinating hands and feet and head. The fight is just the bit at the end.

There was a big hoo haa here a while ago about female boxers possibly being banned from the sport. Again, it's the individual's choice to participate in the sport, whether they need padded bras or padded shorts ;)

Well...yeah! But they make no bones about it, not like it used to be. Wrestling must be considered with one's tongue firmly implanted in cheek.:) :D

I will watch a boxing match if I come across one channel surfing, but always turn off pro wrestling.

Boxing almost seems like a gentleman's sport compared to other unarmed hand-to-hand fighting.

I did wrestle in High School, the kind with weight classes, where you start in position and win by pinning the other guy on the mat. That is a sport; pro wrestlong is a show.

Have any of you taken self-defense style fighting classes? Or been in a fist-fight, gotten mugged, attacked, etc? Just curious.

I simply DETEST professional wrestling because it is just plain stupid. I was a Mat Maid in high school (basically managers for the wrestling team) and enjoyed that a lot and still do. That actually takes a lot of skill.

As for boxing, that's another one I don't like.

However, if 2 idiots want to beat the bloody hell out of each other....have at it. It's their brains that will be mush by the time they finish their careers.

As for animal fighting and a humans fighting as a means of comparison, it's not a valid comparison. Like you said Kay, animals don't have a choice in the matter and humans are able to say yay or nay.

I studied Tae Kwon Do for 10 years and Aikido for 7. I actually got attacked once, about 18 years ago. I fought the guy off and he ran away. The cop asked for a description; I told him 5'10" and 185 lbs. When the cops caught up with the guy, I went to the cop shop to do the report. The lady cop told me he was actually 6'5" and 225 lbs. I think I dropped his size in my mind so I wouldn't be psyched out.

Martial arts training kept me from freezing and panicking, much more than giving me fancy techniques to use on the guy. It took a long time to get over it, and to this day can't tolerate anyone following me at a close distance.
