I think maturity has a lot to do with it. You can date someone 5 years older than you and not feel any diffrence in age because of maturity level.
It all adds up. Maturity, experience, devotion and trust. Age doesn't exactly have too much to do with it unless the person's like..15 years older than you.
2-4 years is a good range for me AFTER maturity. :)
Funny you brought this up, I've recently had a little disaster with someone ALOT older than me. He was a past co-worker and it was really disturbing to even think about it. He had to be at LEAST 35..and I'm not even 16 yet. *shudders* gross.
If both are mature enough, fine..it's up to them. But when it's a young child and someone older, no I'm against it. Even if the young child was with someone the same age..I'm not so keen on the idea of kids already dating at the age of 12.

It all depends. At 14 no but when I was 16 I met Corey which is now my husband, at the time he was 22. We have been together for 5 years. I honestly think it has been the best 5 years of my life. He got me through things that I wouldn't have been able to get my self through. Sure alot of people had alot of thoughts about the two of us. At the same time my parents were ok with it because they seen how happy he made me. If Corey would have been anyone else then they would have made me stay home. No dating no nothing. If I was 14 and Corey was 22 then no my parents would have stepped in right away. Especially my dad. My dad liked Corey he didn't mind at all as long as Corey didn't hurt me my dad was fine with him.
So I think it depends. At your age you shouldn't be dating an 18 year old. So it's only 4 years between you two. Look at it this way. He's 18 your 14, would you want to date a 10 year old? That is still 4 years. But that would be sick. Right?
I have to agree with cubby31682. I dated someone that was 3 years oler than me in high school. It was a normal relationship. We had no issues of “pressure”.
Just an FYI – it’s not illegal in most states to date someone under the age of 18 of you’re 18 or over, it is illegal to have sex with a minor, though. To make dating a minor illegal, would be an impossible law to uphold, especially when teenagers are dating. Someone’s going to turn 18 first, after all.
Okay, here is something I have a problem with.
If one is convicted of any sexual crime toward a minor, you are a Registered Sex Offender for LIFE. Anyone can access that info and it will always follow you around.
I think that is great! Child molestation/rape/etc. are some of the most horrific crimes in our society.
But there is one problem...
Let's say you are an 18 year old boy. Your girlfriend is 16. You two have sex and her parents find out and get angry. They prosecute. In most states this is called statutory rape. Even though you are both willing participants, you get convicted. You are now a Sex Offender for LIFE!
This scenereo is quite different from what we consider sex offenses, rape, or child molestation. Unforatunatly, most people checking sex offender records can't tell the details of you case. So, for all they know, you are a violent criminal to small children.
How is that fair?
It just depend on the people. And how mature both of the people are.
My husband is 11 years older then me. I met him when I was 17 and he was 28. Alot of people in my family hated it at first, some came around. But not everyone. They came around maybe couple months after Rob and I were married. Rob was 29 and I was 18 years old.

My mom and I were talking about something like this yesterday. I've decided that I wouldn't be happy dating someone who is exceptionally older than me. My mom's boyfriend is ten years older than her. The average lifespan of a man is 70. So he may have only 20 years left. A woman's average is 80. So my mom has 40 years left! She has atleast twice as many years left than him! Even if he succeeds the average (which alot of men do), it would still make me sad to think about it.

I think it doesn't make a difference as long as its legal, I dated a thirty five year old when I was seventeen(I'm eighteen now), see that would have been illegal if we did anything, but other than that it was the same to me as dating someone my age.
