Oh, Anna I'm so sorry to hear of this.
How awful you must feel:(
Roxey didn't know any better, and all of the hoomans were so busy, it's no one's fault, but sad just the same.
Maybe you could donate to some sort of rescue (Best Friends comes to mind here) in Baldey's name for her, and send a nice card.
One of the vets here makes a donation to the SPCA for any animals under his care who pass on to the bridge, and the owners get a nice card and plaque with the dog's name on it...just a thought.
RIP Baldey:(

Anna,
I'm so sorry for what happened. It was an unfortunate accident.
Maybe an engraved rock with his name on it that she could put in her garden or keep inside as a memory?
:(
-
Dont worry Anna, it was all a accident. It's not your fault...It Nobodys.
-
How sad!! Don't blame yourself though, Anna. It was an accident that you could not have forseen.
-
Anna, don't blame yourself :( IMO, if they knew 3 large dogs were coming over they should've put their bird away. It's no one's fault. Just an accident, it was Baldey's time. I like the idea of a card, maybe a boquet of flowers as well. I also love Kat's idea of a memorial stone. That would be sweet :) Maybe you could give her a copy of the Rainbow Bridge poem/story?
-
ah anna, I can't imagine how awful you must feel, but you know it was an accident. Your friend knows that as well. She'll grieve for a while, but certainly she doesn't blame you.
Don't beat yourself up.
-
Anna, you could beat yourself up forever about this, and I hope that you won't.
It truly was an accident and I am sure your Mother-in-law knows that.
I like the idea of giving her a personal card with your handwritten note telling her how awful you feel.
When the time is right and she is ready - perhaps then you can convince her to get another pet of her choice.
I do feel terrible for you it must have been so upsetting.
-
OH ANNA!
How upsetting.
I have to agree with Soledad. Placing the blame on someone doesn't help anyone or the situation at all. A donation in memory of Baldy is an excellant idea.
Roxey probably just thought that it was a toy. I think Keegan would have done the same thing.
-
As much as we all love our furkids we have to remind ourselves that they do have natural instincts, which they WILL follow.
I am so sorry this happened - but don't blame yourself - no one person is responsible - it was just a really terrible accident!
I agree with the others, maybe a card / flowers or something would be a nice gesture. Then in a few months, offer again to take her out and get a new pet. (Yes I know you can never replace any loved one, but it can help to fill the void, and give the person something positive to focus on)
-
Oh Anna, I know how devastated you must feel. As far as what you should do, just let her know how badly you feel about what has happened. I know you have already done that, but as others have said a note or another call. Just so she is aware that you don't take the situation lightly. Then try to comfort her on the loss of her pet. Afterall, you are one of the people who truly understands the depth of a relationship a person can have with a pet.
But please do not feel guilty any more. It was an accident and not your or Roxey's fault.
-
How devasting for the both of you.
Poor thing, it was an accident.
I am so sorry. :(
-
Oh Anna, I'm so sorry... I feel so bad for you!
I don't know what to say...:(
RIP Baldey
-
Anna, I am so sorry that happened. I would get her something sentimental that has to do with the bird. Like perhaps a nice picture framed with the bird and a RB poem.
-
Oh Anna. How devistating. :(
It was an accident...it wasn't your fault.
RIP Baldey.

Guess what?!
She decided she wanted another bird!
She said that she just missed him so much and so did her other bird (she wasn't eating). So we got her another one Monday night:D
She was so happy! We were going to let her pick it out, but we found one that we thought she'd like and Mark called her & she said "Bring it home!".
I haven't gotten any pictures yet, but when I do I'll post them.
Thanks again everyone for trying to make me feel better, but when I found out she wanted another bird, I think that's the only thing that made me feel that way.
