I posted under the other topic as well. Just want you to know that I'm thinking about you.
The same with me, I posted under the other topic, but my heartfelt sympathies are with you right now.

I was so sad to read your post. Tears came to my eyes as I read it. I am sure that Bourbon is looking down at you now with so much love and gratitude for all that you did.
My heart goes out to you in your loss.
Love, Gini
Dear Pepper ~ I share your grief with Bourbon's journey to the Rainbow Bridge. Always remember the good times, the times of joy, that he shared with you. And know that he will also remember those same years of happiness he spent with you, his Mom. /s/ Phred
Oh, Pepper, I am so sorry for your loss. I'm sorry I'm replying late, but I honestly could not muster the courage to write sooner. Believe it or not, I don't express myself well at times like this cause it's so devasting for me to even think about. I pray I have your selflessness and courage to do the right thing when the time comes. There can be no better expression of true, unrelenting, total love.
I was off from work a few days last week, and saw on TV, John Edward, a medium who speaks for the departed..Anyway, all the people he spoke to in the audience were so shocked BUT he asked one lady if there was a dog with a "liquor" name. The woman thought, said no, then totally jumped up and said it was her dad's poodle "Brandy". He then said her father and Brandy were side by side.
Well, it sounds freaky, but I found it very comforting to know that our pets go to heaven and that we will meet again. That's heaven to me. So I hope that helps relieve the pain a wee bit.
My thoughts and prayers are with you!!
Dear Pepper:
I sent you an e-mail yesterday, I hope you got it. Once more I wanted to let you know how much we understand and share your grief. You did what was right for Bourbon and I'm sure that from his place at Rainbow Bridge he's looking down and sending you his thanks for your love and the happy years you gave him. Imagine all the new friends he's making there! He may even run into my two Golden girls: Natasha and Irina.
No other dog will take the place of Bourbon in your heart, but I'm sure you have enough love to welcome another pup sometime when you are ready.
Pepper writes...
"I wrote a response at Pet Talk and it didn't post and now I'm having trouble even getting the site open. Please let everyone know I'm hanging in there and I appreciate all of their cards and thoughts? I'll try to get on again tomorrow. I only have the internet at work."

i am sorry that i am late in responding...but iwanted you to know pepper, that you and bourbon are in our thoughts and prayers...and like phred said earler...try to remember the happy times in bourbons' life and know that you gave him a life full of love and caring.....i know that this is a difficult time for you...but we are here for you.....we've been in that place also....the deli dog
Oh Pepper, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. i know Bourbon will wait for you and you did the right thing. Maybe my Sugar will play with him... Sugar is my dachschund girl who passed away this year of old age.
pepper, i am so sorry that bourbon left for the rainbow bridge so soon. the only faults that dogs have is that they leave, and leave such big holes in your heart. joyce
Albea ~ I got your e-mail, thank you.
I am doing a little bit better, even put on mascara today. I am taking Payton to the vet today (Bourbon's appointment) and will see my vet that was away. It will be heart wrenching, I'm sure. My boyfriend offered to go with me (shock!) and I may take him up on it.
The hardest part is missing his presence. I thought on the way home last night that he will never be in the car with me again. It made me cry again.
I just can't believe I've lost two dogs this year. Five months ago, Bourbon looked healthy as ever. If you had told me he would be gone in five months, I never would have believed it. I don't believe it now.
I wish I knew the author, but I don't. I wanted to change the gender for Bourbon, but I don't want to tamper with the original poem, so we'll just have to do it mentally.
Dog on Loan
I'll lend you for a little time,
A dog of mine God said.
For you to love while she lives,
And mourn when she is dead.
The years they may be six or ten,
Or even a few as three.
But will you, 'till I call her back,
Take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you,
And shall her stay be brief,
You'll have her lovely memories,
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay,
Since all from Earth return.
But there are lessons taught down there,
I want this dog to learn.
I've looked the wide world over,
In my search for Master true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give her your love?
Nor think the labor vain.
Nor hate me when I come to call,
To take her back again?
We answered in sincerity,
Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joy this dog shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter her with tenderness,
And love her while we may,
And for the happiness we'll know,
Will ever grateful stay.
But shall the angels call for her,
Much sooner than we planned,
Well know the bitter grief that comes,
And try to understand.
IN LOVING MEMORY OF DEAR BOURBON

I read this poem still every day after losing Kona, Pepper I hope it will help you too.
THE LAST BATTLE
If It should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this - the last battle - can't be won.
You will be sad I understand
But don't let grief than stay your hand
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes,
Please, let me go.
Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
it is a kindness you do for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close-we two-these years.
Don't let your heart hold any tears
