Companies that test on Animals..

SO many companies use animal testing. It's so sad and frustrating. I think that we have safely come to a point in science where we do not need to be testing products as basic as cosmetics and cleaners. Isn't that knowledge pretty much already out there? What other cleaning/beauty frontiers need to be conquered these days??!!:rolleyes:

I find that the cosmetics and hair products not tested on animals are generally superior products as they tend to rely on natural ingredients. I highly recommend Biolage. It's the best shampoo/conditioner I've ever used.

Is Biolage shampoo and con. into one?

None of those ever work for me. The two in one crap ALWAYS makes my hair so tangled.

No, it's not a 2-in-1. I use the hydrating shampoo and the conditioning balm. It makes my hair like silk. You can find it at salons.

I also use MAC and Bobbi Brown makeup, both are excellent!! Kiehl's also has some amazing products out there.

Eeep.. Salon stuff is normally way too expensive. I like Fantasic Sam's shampoos and conditioner. They works really well on my hair. It's hard to find things that do since it's so long.

I use Biolage too, and I like it a lot. I also use the conditioning balm, and it makes my hair so soft it feels like I am touching air- sorta like it's not even there. At the salon by my house they charge $10.00 a bottle.

Jeepers! I didn't realize that so many large companies are still using animals!!! :eek: Looks like I won't be buying anything for a while!

I recommend Mary Kay products. They were the very first makeup/ styling/ cleaning products company to start the march against animal testing.

thats right, mary kay rocks. i think all or at least most of their products dont have animal ingredients in addition to not testing. I forget where I heard that thoguh.. too bad I dont have anyone to sell me mary kay stuff! avon doesnt test either.

yeah its pretty easy to get stuff that doesnt test and doesnt have animal ingredients. i just shop in the "natural" section of the grocery store. fred meyer is awesome, a lot of QFCs have a good selection and of course Trader Joes, PCC, (dunno where all PCC has stores or if its only in WA) and stores like that that have mostly organic/natural type products. I usually get Jason, Toms of Maine, Shikai or Kiss My Face products. Im actually recently leaning away from Toms of Maine because they use bees wax in a lot of their stuff. But they are a good company still.

And just a side note, you really gotta look at the COMPANY that produces the products and see if they test or not, because Herbal Essences says they dont test or have animal ingredients, BUT they are owned by Proctor & Gamble, one of the BIGGEST (actually i think they are the biggest in the US) companies that tests on animals!!! So, its very deceiving!!

I know PETA produces a cool little pocket-sized packet that lists all the good and bad companies that you can carry around with you in your purse or wallet or pocket or whatev.

As for other products, like office supplies, just a few off the top of my head: Mead tests, as does Bic, but Sanford does NOT, and they make Sharpies, & Papermate. I think they make Hi Liter too, and I dont think Pilot tests either. I always just buy Sanford products though. :) I LOVE papermate pens the best anyway!

Thanks for posting this KayAnn--I've been meaning to do a search on it for a while now--what an informative list--unfortunately, I will have to make some adjustments to my shopping list:( I am most disappointed with Arm & Hammer--I use all of their pet stain or deodorizing products--guess I'll have to find something else!!

Seriously now, WHO EVER THOUGHT that you would have to lock BABY OIL away from your baby? It IS the companies fault because a product so widely used around babies should be 100% safe - even if consumed! Not kill them!

It is the company's fault -- if it said poisonous or dangerous on the bottle, then I'd store it with the rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide -- Or beter yet, not use it. Think about the babies that slurp it all up with the bath water.

lovemyshiba- I just bought Nature's Miracle. Its all natural so its safe around pets, and its supposed to be amazing. Or so I hear! lol I havent used it yet, but I was just about to go clean the bun's litter box with it! My cat Felicity, she has some weird thing, I think some kind of digestive prob, (its a long story), but anyway, she will vomit several times in a row peridoically, so cleaning that off carpets is a regular thing, so next time she does it I'll let you know how this Natures Miracle works. lol The bottle claims it removes stain and odor 100% so.. we'll see!

Has anyone else on PT used it?

Is there Body Shop in the US? They have great stuff (like my yummy melon shower splash ;)), not tested on animals, some substances from fair trade and not too expensive.

In addition I think cosmetic substances should of course be tested on humans. One of the many problems with testing on animals is that it is not even sure whether it will be really ok for humans to use the stuff.
