best ball?

I have just joined , so please forgive me if I am not in synch with the discussion. I have tried none of the above mentioned balls, but I Know Aida loves her flourescent orange, street-hockey ball. She makes short work out of most balls, but the hockey balls stand up to a lot of abuse. They are not only durable but also quite inexpensive, $1-$3 here in Canada

They are also a relatively dead ball making them a great ball to play with indoors as well.
I found the only drawback was that by being smooth it got awfully slimey, oh well whats a little drool between friends!:rolleyes:

Question: Is that Street Hockey "BALL" actually *round* like a ball,
or more *flat* like a hockey puck??

Its a round ball approximately the size of a hardball (Baseball), appears to be made of a soft yet tough plastic. The Canadian balls are made this way, I cannot say what the US version is made of ,but even at $3.99 what can it hurt to try one out!
Aida's a fairly large dog and I've tried kongs and other toys, yet she prefers the Hockey balls.

Welcome to Pet Talk. I just read what your dog likes to play with.A street hockey ball. I should try one of those for my dog. Bandit goes out and finds a stick and I don't want him to chew on things that can hurt his insides. As for soft toys, he tears them apart. You know he's never bothers my stuffed animals. They sit in the bedroom in a basket and he leaves them alone. I do collect Boyds bears and Beanie Babies. I wouldn't like Bandit to tear them up so I never tease him with them. But he needs to have something to occupy his time. I tried chewey bones, the ones that digest and won't get in his intestines. My neighbor suggested these hard rubber type toys that you hide their treats in. Bandit gets bored with them. :confused: I don't know what to do to occupy his time. He sometimes looks so sad. I probably should have another dog, but that is out of the question. He does know he's loved because I worry when he's outside and watch him close that he doesn't run away. He listens good. He sits on command. Well, that's all for now. I think I will try the hockey street ball. :cool:

If Bandits quite sociable you could try taking him to a local retirement home for a few hours on a regular basis, it would give you both a chance to socialize while giving Bandit a chance to blow of some steam. Just make sure you take one of his favourite toys, so that he can share it with his new friends! Or you could try what Aida loves to do and that is playing goalie inside the house, she will position herself at the entrance of the hallway leading off the kitchen, I stand about 6-10ft away and try to kick her hockey ball past her, it amazes not only my friends at her lightning fast reflexes but I must admit she lets very few balls get past her. She loves the game so much that her eyes never leave sight of the ball , oblivious to any thing else. Ten to fifteen minutes of that then heads to her water dish and a well deserved nap. Regardless of how well we guard our pets outside, things happen like when Aida was playing in the yard she was running through the ditch when the ice let go and she cut her leg quite badly.

That was such a cute picture of Aida. Poor Baby:( Did the leg heal ok? I have to think of some inside games because I want Bandit to stay fit and winters are long. Thank you for ideas and I love hearing about your dog. Everybody dogs are so cute. By the way, if you don't know Bandit is black and tan, a terrier mix, I adobted him at Petsmart when he was 3months old. I have a 5x7 birth picture on our dresser. He is so sweet and we have him groomed like a Schnauzer. I think I spelled it right. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to have to try one of these balls for Bandit. He only has a tennis ball and a tennis ball on an elastic cord which he wants to chew. He has the hard rubber ball you hide treats in. Now I will try a new kind. :D

:) Good luck finding that type of ball! I really cant say what the availability is like in the states, they are easy to find here,They can be found at any sporting goods store, I usually purchase mine at Canadian Tire, a major chain here."I think" I saw them at Walmart also.
Has anyone heard about this Dog translator

I got Bandit a Hol ee Roller Ball and I think he likes it. I like it because it bounces and is soft and rolls. I do want to get one of those big balls. Is that the best ball?:confused: I think Bandit might have Airedale in him. He is a terrier mix. Last night I got a little afraid. I am home alone for about a week because of my husband's job and it was 2:30 in the morning and Bandit barked. He does not normally do that and I don't like opening the door to let him out at 2:30am when I am in the house alone. But I did. Maybe he heard an animal outside. I hope tonight he sleeps through the night. He spooked me, but I praised him because that is what you want your dog to do. I gave him a treat and attention. :D A litttle secret, Bandit does not bite?

i think my dog like balls that can squish in her mouth . aren't best balls to hard?
