I am absolutely sure Reuben is real, or he would not have been chosen Dog of the Day. His body and head DO match in fur color and texture, the light is hitting his body differently than his face, that's all. That is consistent, because his body is sideways and his head is facing front.

I think Reuben is beautiful and special, as are all pets. Please, Reuben's folks, don't take offense at people not thinking he's real, okay?

My friend had a Bassett/Rottweiller combo once...you are soo similar!!!!
we had named that doggie combo Sugarbear...from the cereal box!!!! but he had all rottie markings,with bassett legs!!!!!
