Maybe it was just not fit properly. I use Gentle Leaders (same thing) on very social dogs and it allows them complete freedom to sniff and look any way they want to. If it slides up, it is probably fit too loosely.

no, we have the last size...the other one was waaay to small, and even this one is too small so now we have to resort to something else (other than a haltee)
i saw on tv the affects of a haltee on social dogs and it was a training show that said to never use it on a social dog....my dog is very social and she hates the haltee and ive been after to get something else for quite a while, but i cant find any prong collars and im not sure where we got leathers and that was a long time ago anyways...the dogs they said that r the two worst dogs for haltees are border collies and collies, and she has collie in her, so she qualifies i guess...

I've never heard anything negative about Haltis or Gentle Leaders. I'm not getting what it has to do with social dogs. Do you know where any information on the web about this is? I'm very confused. It could be the cold medicine talking though :)

lol...hmmm i may be able to find something about them...i think the problem with haltis is because people hold their dogs on a short leash when they pull usually, and this would probably enable the dog from moving its head properly (i do this with timber...she cant stand it but eventually she will learn)

Who are THEY? I have seen many Borders and Shelties using Halti or Gentle Leaders. These devices may freak a dog out when they first are put on but they can do the same for any other dog too. If put on properly this device will not stop a dog from socializing. It may stop them from socializing by mouthing but that's about all I can see! Perhaps we are not talking about the same device? :confused:

the package that i get them in says halti on it...but the ones i use dont stop them from mouthing...they can open there mouths quite wide (except timber cuz hers is too small). Im not sure what station i saw it on..it was probably on either the life network or the other one (im not sure what its called, its channel 37 here) they just said that borders and collies are social dogs and dont like haltis...i can see that, because the second they pull on the leash, the halti will pull their head to the side. if they r wearing a collar, their head will not be restricted, but instead their body...
i went to get timber a choke chain today, but they werre thirty dollars, so instead i bought a new leash for thirty dollars, cuz the leash my aunt gave me is a chain and i dont like it....
hey, and does anyone know the scoop on body halters? i just wanna know what they r like...

When we had Roxey in obedience, I bought a prong collar. Needless to say, as soon as it went on, she never pulled (guess she knew what would happen if she did:eek: ). She was the best mannered dog in the world. But just as soon as it was taken off....BOOM! She was her old self again:rolleyes:
Of course I liked the way she listened and acted when it was on her, but it was only when she had it on that she acted so perfect!
I guess you could buy one & try it, it would probably be the same for Nebo too, but I agree totally with Candy. You have to condition their behavior.
One of the things our teacher taught us was touch. Do you do that in school with Nebo? We would walk around the ring, let your dog get interested in something (another dog, toys, treats or whatever), then touch them on the behind & call their name, and back up quickly. Then act really excited (like what you had was the best thing in the world-so much better than what they were looking at). It really worked for us.

It seem kinda crule to me ...

My siberian just uses a Harness,,,,... Thant works fine and it doesnt choke her to death like these colors... :eek:

I have a prong pinch color.. We used it on our OTHER Siberian because she was uncontrolible when on walks.. I still didt like it when my mom would use it :(

I felt sorry for our OTHER husky..

i have owned 7 rottweilers 2 german shephers now my poodles all mydogs have been trained with the training collars as i prefer to call them the prongs dont cut into the flesh used correctly they are safer than a harness, come along, choker chains do damage the tracha as well as the leather and nylon collars also i do not put collars on my dogs when they are at home as collars can become caught on objects and the dog can strangle. when at the park i put the training collars on my poodles this way if they should act up i do have control on them. to me whats worse choking the dog with a chain nylon or leather collar or a quick pinch and if your dog has a collasped trachea the nylon and chanin collars makes it worse i took my training with stuart harvard who has had some of the top obe. trained dogs in the usa and now runs herding dogs he uses the training collars i will always use them in training. but the most important thing is to use it correctly.
