I think cats can feel nausea without making it obvious, like throwing up. The several cats with fatty liver disorder I've fostered were so nauseated by the disorder that they couldn't eat, but they didn't throw up. Perhaps I'm making a wrong assumption from that. Another question for your vet?!
-
Thanks, Lizzie and Mary. We saw the vet on Thursday and got some Vit. B and Mirtazapine. And did some more blood work. And he wants to check Sydney's eyes again to consider putting him on blood pressure med (amlodipine, which by coincidence I take myself to control MY blood pressure!).
I talked this afternoon with a vet who practices Chinese traditional veterinary medicine. She told me to get Sydney's latest numbers and updates, and she'll consider what she might be able to do for him.
Love from Sydney and Sydney's Meowmie

The blood pressure meds work great!
Tama's blood pressure went from 300 down to 120 in one week of being on those:)

Lots of healing thoughts and prayers coming your and Sydney's way. I've never dealt with a kidney cat, so I can't comment on that. I hope that the meds will get things under control and that Sydney will have a good long quality life left with you.
Hugs to you, and lovies and scritchies to Sydney.:love::love:

Thank you, neko1 and Jenn. We went in to see the vet, and Sydney's blood pressure was normal this time, so we're not starting him on amlodipine at this point.
I got copies of Sydney's records, and I'm going to call the other vet and see what she thinks.
Thanks, Jenn, from Sydney and me and all the others for the good wishes and hugs and lovies and skritchies (which have been delivered)!

Thank you for the good wishes and prayers and hugs, katladyd and Helene. Today Sydney's blood pressure levels came out normal!
Tomorrow I am taking a copy of his latest bloodwork and records down to Alice, the vet who does Chinese traditional vet medicine. She is also a Western-trained vet, a graduate of MSU vet school who was at Angell Memorial in Boston for a while. She has a cute store called Dogma Catmantoo (http://dogmacatmantoo.com/) selling nice and healthy things for dogs and cats and people who love dogs and cats.
Dr. Bill, Sydney's regular vet and also an MSU alum, thinks this is a good idea, because there isn't much more that Western medicine can come up with at this point. Kidney disease isn't reversible, it can just be slowed down, and we're all going to slow it down as much as we can.
And Sydney plans to be in Philadelphia with his bagpipes this week!
Love from Sydney and Pat and the rest :love::love::love::love::love::love::love:

Glad to hear Sydney's blood pressure is sitting at normal now and he doesn't need to take that medication. I feel so sorry for Sam sometimes with all the fluids, pills and injections she gets but she's very good about it and it's added years to her life. There are a number of kidney cats, as you know, on PT and we seem very well able to keep them around for several years. Will you get Sydney a treat when you visit Dr. Alice?

Ming is sending good wishes to his fellow bag piper!:)

Thank you, Lizzie and katladyd. Sydney has an appointment to see Dr. Alice for some acupuncture and herbs on Monday evening. She doesn't think his numbers are all that bad and thinks he can keep going for quite a while with support.
Sydney is looking forward to piping away with Ming and the gang in Philadelphia!

Lots of paw crossed and well wishes heading to Sydney from me and my kitty gang too.:love::love::love::love::love::love::love:

Thank you, Donna and gang. I will report on how the acupuncture-and-herbs session goes and what Dr. Alice has to say about Sydney.
This is my first time seeing her as a vet. She had stopped practicing for a while and opened the store, then started up in practice again after getting certified in the Asian techniques.
I've known her for ages from the store, and when I used to work at the cat shelter (before it got taken over by nefarious parties), we had adoption events there on occasion.
Thanks again, everyone! Sydney and I (and all the rest) love you!

Sydney's acupuncture is postponed to tomorrow night... Dr. Alice had forgotten she had another engagement tonight. Stay tuned!
