WELCOME! Susie sure is a cutie! We'd love to see more pics! She reminds me a bit of my friend's german shorthair, Lady. :D Maybe there is another Pet Talk meeting in our future too!!

Welcome, welcome, welcome! Susie is gorgeous! You'll really enjoy it here, but be careful, it's VERY addicting :)
I have two rescue dogs and a rescue cat myself. Graham, Kersey & Minion. They are my pride and joy. Life is not the same without animals, that's for sure. Once you have a beloved pet, you will never know how you lived without one!

Just saw your message. Sorry. Susie is doing great! We picked her up on Saturday and she was a little frightened of us and her surroundings that day. By the next day, she was much more comfortable with us but was still kind of spooked by the new place. She's been very clingy, but yesterday she started getting a little more bold about exploring her surroundings. She has only had one accident in the house (and that was because I spooked her right after she woke up), and she's figured out why we take her outside so much because now she goes as soon as we go outside. We were waiting as long as 30 minutes for her to "Go Potty". We did have one unfortunate incident. Monday we both had to go to work all day... we both work M-F (8-5) with pretty long commutes on top of that. We put her in the backyard, and that afternoon she got tired of being alone. She broke through the fence... literally. She broke the bottom off 2 boards on our fence gate. She crossed a busy 4 lane highway near our neighborhood and started sniffing around the parking lot of a vet's office. They took her inside and called us... thank goodness we had a tag made for her at Petco the weekend before. My husband got the message when he got home and raced to their office before they closed at 6pm. She was completely unharmed, but we have been keeping her in the garage for the past couple of days because we can't trust her in the yard, especially with a hole in the gate. We're hoping to install an electronic containment system to reinforce our fence this weekend. Other than that, she has been adjusting very well and we couldn't be happier. :D

Welcome to pet talk and Suzie is beautiful. No wonder you picked her.

Is Susie crate trained? Thats a long time to be in a crate but maybe you can just have her in the crate in the house for a few weeks until she learns she belongs there and you can trust she won't bust out again.
I'm glad everything else is going good :)

She is crate trained but it seems too long to leave her in there. She is in it all night and between work and our commutes she'd be in there for about 11.5 hours during the day too. I know they say crating them isn't mean and we've put her in there as long as 3 hours on weekends (and about 8 hours every night), but 11.5 hours seems extreme to me. She's actually getting used to being away from us and doesn't act as upset when we leave now. She's stopped fighting with us when we shut the door. Now she just sits back and looks sad. Everyday she gets more and more curious and bold. I'm so happy the weekend is here so we can spend more time with her.
