Yes, they do look quite different from place-to-place. Your squirrel's tail puts our poor, scrawny Alaskan squirrel tails to shame!

The fact that all the squirrels look so different shows that they are old and very successful species as they immigrated eraly in all those countries and had lots of time to develop.
There is the Kaibab squirrel which developped in the Grand Canyon area and the population got split up when Grand Canyon formed with the result that the North and South species are different now!
