Thanks everyone. Sasha was pretty good last night. She ate a bit of steak. She even got a little silly, but not for long. She also fell on me when she got up while I was lying on the floor beside her. This morning she's a little more wobbly and not at all interested in food. She was really scratching at her one ear last night so I got out the flash light and had a look see, but I didn't see anything. We will see what the vet has to say this afternoon. I sure hope they can do something for her. She is so sad.

Here's hoping the vet can make her feel better, and more like her silly self!

Sending prayers and good thoughts to you!!!

Thinking of you and Sasha!

Sasha did not have a stroke. She does not have an ear infection as such. She does have canine peripheral vestibular syndrome. Very common in older dogs, very alarming but the prognosis is excellent. She just has to ride it out. From the article I found: what is thought to happen is that the nerves of the inner ear connecting to the cerebellum, which controls balance and spatial orientation become inflamed, but why this should happen is as yet unclear. There seems to be a link to age as the disease is much more common in old dogs. The vet put her on 50 mg of benadryl daily to help alleviate her symptoms. She's not been eating with this and has lost 3 lbs already. Yesterday's dose of benadryl seemed to make her feel better so hoping it helps her ride this out.

Good news...hope she is better soon! Eat, sweetie!

I've been following along, I'm glad she's doing better. I've never heard of canine peripheral vestibular syndrome before, but I would like to read up on it. Star is only 10, but at times seems like she's having balance issues, so it would be one more bit of knowledge to stash away.

Sending hugs and kisses to you and Sasha.

Sasha is having a good day today. She's much more steady. Her heads not all twisted to the left. She even ate all of her breakfast. Yesterday she got the benadryl 3 times, 50 mg per time. Today she's had it once as it's still early. Seems to be helping. We even went for a short walk and didn't have any falling down and she only got unsteady on uneven ground. I pray that the worst has past and she is on the mend.
Thanks everyone for your good thoughts for my Sasha.

It's September 7. I daresay that Sasha is over this event. She still gets shaky back legs every now and again. But no more falling down. No more sideways twisted head. Ya hoo!!!!!!! :D
