Okay, the IV went a little better today. Kedi still hates it, and right now I think he hates me :( you should have seen the pitful look on his little face.....................made me sad.
He does seem to feel a little better now, except for the heat. All my kitties are doing more laying around because it's also been humid
Thanks so much everyone for the advice and support. Pet Talk is the best! :)

Glad to hear it's going a little better Yorkster. Even though it might seem that Kedi hates you, if he's feeling better, that's what matters, and he will come around and be his old loving self again when he's feeling better.
You're so brave to take this on yourself. Good luck and let us know how things continue to go.

I'm also glad to hear that Kedi is starting to feel better. It will become more difficult when he starts gaining his strength back. It sure was this way with Pepper. Good luck. :)

Kedi was such a good patient today when I gave him his IV :)
Just sat quietly and waited while I did it, and not one peep out of him.

Such good news!

So how is everything going Yorkster? Is the IV feeding over with and Kedi is feeling better?

The IV feeding is going quite well now :)
I've gotten used to it and know what to do (and NOT do). I started giving him a full body massage imediately afterwards, and he just LOVES it! He acts like he is in heaven
Therefore, now he lays down quietly and does not move an inch while I'm feeding him, cuz he knows he always gets the rub-down after! :)
The bad news is that we found out that he has the beginning of kidney disease :( It's not known yet if it's acute (reversable) OR chronic (not reversable, but possibly treatable).
Either way, he will be on IV feeding for a long time, and even maybe the rest of his life. Starting tomorrow, it only has to be every other day, and can go to 2-3 times a week depending on what the outcome of his kidney renal insufficiency is.
I do know that I won't keep him alive having to live this way if he is in pain or suffering much. It's not something I even want to think about now though.
He is feeling better, which is very encouraging to us and the vet. Just yesterday he was doing a 'crazy kitty' run around the house, and even played & wrestled with our kitten Rudy! :D :p I was so happy!
Thanks again everyone and Kedi thanks you all too!

Thanks for the update Yorkster. I'm glad everything is going well with the IV. I didn't realize it was a "feeding" IV, I thought it was just medicine. Poor Kedi sounds like he's feeling better for now.
Tubby is also in the beginning stages of kidney failure. I've known this for almost a year now (which reminds me that it's about time for his 6 month check-up). The vet told me to give him 1/4 of a pepcid (antacid) everyday and that would help. It couldn't reverse any damage that has already been done, but it will slow the decline. When I took him back for his first 6 month check-up, he was doing great and one of his numbers actually went down and the other stayed the same, so the pepcid must be doing something. I know it has stopped him from throwing up all the time. And when I took him back last time (his first 6 month check-up) the vet made the comment that if the numbers were a little worse, we could up the dosage to 1/2 a pepcid, which didn't need to be done but at least I knew what the next step would be if needed.
So hopefully Kedi's won't be too serious and the pepcid can work for him too. Ask your vet about it. I've also found some websites on renal failure, I can't find them in my favorites right now, but if you go to the Merck Veterinary Manual that Zippy suggested and do a search on "renal failure" there is some good info that comes up there. So Tubby has been on the pepcid for a year now, and he acts just like his old self. The only thing we don't do is give him milk anymore, or other treats from the table because it just upsets his tummy too much and he throws up again. So there's no reason Kedi couldn't do the same.
Kedi is such a beautiful kitty that I really hate to think he isn't feeling well, but it sounds like he's feeling much better if he's romping around with Rudy. ;) Paws, tails & fingers crossed that Kedi will be ok. He is just so pretty...oops...handsome. :)

Yorkster, I'm sorry I missed this thread. I can't imagine how hard this has been for you. But, I'm really glad that Kedi is dealing with it positively and is getting full body masages out of it! :)
I'll be praying that the kidney problems can be treated without pain or anguish to sweet Kedi. Take care and please keep us updated. :D

I'm glad to hear that Kedi is feeling better but I'm sorry to hear that he might be starting to have kidney failure. I sure hope that it can be treated so he can be around for a long time. All fingers and paws are crossed here. Please keep us posted.
