It's ok if it isn't overdone. then of course, there's the "accidental" pairings through marriage - like my brother & his wife, "Paul and Pauline". I used to work with a woman named- (I'm not kidding) - "Odell Odell" - her birth name plus her married last name! We ended up with two "S's" by accident - Sherman was already named when we got him, and it suits him so well, we couldn't change it. :)
It can be even worse !! My niece has 1 girl and 2 boys, and all their names start with an "MA". Poor kids, now they all have the same initials :rolleyes: :rolleyes:
Their names: Margot Naessens, Maxim Naessens, Mattis Naessens.
Margot is 6 now, and she already hates it.... :(
I wouldn't pick a name just because I want it to start with a specific letter, but it doesn't bother me when other people do it. It does bother me when people have names that rhyme, like Brandy and Candy.
I suppose it's ok for pets, as long as the names sound different enough so as not to confuse the animals.
I find it so incredibly obnoxious for children, however. If you happen to like two names that happen to start with the same letter, that's one thing. For example, my son's name is Dylan, and if I would have had another son I might have named him Dane. Only because I liked both names.
However, I think three or five or seven kids who's names all start with "P" or whatever is silly. There was a family in my hometown who did the "L" thing ... Lonnie, Larry, Lynn, etc. Well, the last girl got named "LaCrisha". She hated her name and always said she got stuck with such a horrid name only because her mom ran out of normal "L" names.
The rhyming name thing is way worse, though. I have cousins named (and I'm not even joking) Jerry, Larry, Terry and Gary. Seriously. It's just beyond comprehension.
I think naming a child is important. They are going to have that name for the rest of their life, and the name is a reflection on the parent as well. I think being "cute" with what another human being is going to be called for their entire life is more than a bit immature, IMO.
What bothers me more is when it's twins. It's even harder to tell them apart, you don't need to give them similar names.

I agree! I went to high school with twin girls who looked exactly alike. Their names were Lorena and Jorena. I also went to college with a lady who named her twin girls Tequila and Shequila. Seriously. :rolleyes:Quote:

I don't think it's the best thing in the world... but sometime it's not too bad.
My sister has 2 kids.... Julia and Jacob... that's not too bad.
But my parents friends have 5 boys.... Anthony, Andrew, Aurther, Arvin and Allan. THAT'S gettin' a little crazy! :D
Its cute, but if I had more than two kids I wouldn't have them all the same first letter. My brother and I names both begin with J :D If I had twins that looked very alike I wouldn't have the same first letters unless they were different it could get confusing for people.
I think its a little bit too cutesy. But if someone wants to name their animals that, I have no problem with it.. To each their own.. If someone wants to name their animal something, its up to them.
I just name the animals whatever I think fits them. Except of course Baby. She was already named and since she is 2 years old, I didn't want to confuse her.
When I had pet rats, for some reason I almost always seemed to pick names that started with an S. It definitely wasn't intentional. It just sort of happened that way. Lets see... I had Squee, Sara, Smokey, Sinbad, Spencer, & Socky (aka: Socrates).. There was several more that weren't 'S' names, and I'm sure there is a few that I am forgetting as well.
