Depending on the reptile the upkeep can be VERY expensive. Iguanas for one start out very small and grow very large. As they grow the need new set-ups. Our iguana has had 5 different set-ups in the 5 years we've had him and each was very expensive. A lot of reptiles are that way.Quote:

Dogs, then fish. I spend more on fish than I do on the dog and cat.

H-O-R-S-E-S- about like buying a decently used car everry single year if you don't show them and get deals on tack!! Of the list, saltwater tanks, extremley dificult to keep right (usually) saltwater fish are expensive, and tend to die often.
I voted dogs, Nebo's definitely racked up thousands in vet bills and everyday expenses (and spoiling).
But that's just the pets I've personally had...so I can't really compare...I've only had dogs and a betta, and its really not possible for one betta to cost as much as a dog!
I would think horses would be very expensive though, I've always said I'd love to have one but only if I was rich. :o
for me, it was rats. It may be dogs soon though!
I voted other because I think all fo the small exotics (fish, reptiles, etc) are expensive, requiring special enviroments, foods, and etc.
I'm surprised that people think dogs are the most expensive, although I'm pretty sure the reasoning stems from the fact that dogs are usually the easiest to "spoil".
I myself voted for dogs before I remembered how much exotic birds cost.
On average:
Hyacinth macaw - $10,000 !!
Greenwinged macaw - $1500-2000
Blue and Gold macaw - $900-1200
Umbrella cockatoo - $1000-15000
Sulfur-Crested cockatoo (Lesser and Greater)- $1000-2500
Moluccan cockatoo - $1800-2500
Let's not forget DNA sexing and avian veterinarians are difficult to find so vet bills are naturally pricier.
I've only owned dogs really (well, I've had fish and a hamster but they don't compare to a dog) so I voted for dogs. However, I don't find them to be that expensive unless they get sick or injured.
Horses, hands down. :eek: I heard someone say they cost 100 dollars a week to board every week.
The flea and heartworm meds for dogs are so expensive to me

My vote is horses. One of my former roommates had one and it cost her a lot of money to keep him boarded, groomed, fed, and to get the proper medical attention.
Well to have I don't know, but to buy, I'd say reptiles and birds. Reptiles can be pretty expensive, same with certain types of birds. But I'd say cats and dogs would be pretty costly to have because you have the vet bills and all that stuff.
