I don't think they're that bad. The animals don't get hurt much at all, and it's only slight discomfort. Much more dangerous to the rider than the animal.

That being said, I *have* been to the rodeos. I have *NEVER* seen them tie up the testicles of any animal, ever.
I love rodeos. The bull does not get hurt at all-they grow up in rodeo, from when they are youngsters, throwing people off. And to them, they ALWAYS win. I believe it is a great satisfaction to them to be bucking and such, and then to throw the person off, it's an accomplishment. Any bull not in good health, or well taken care of, will not perform well. And what's worse...going through the meat market (have you ever seen feed lots? Tiny pens full of cattle with no where to really even walk, just sitting there to gain weight), sitting worm infested and skin and bones in a field, or being well taken care of and bucking people off? They don't tie ropes around their testicles, they put a strap under the abdomen. Yes they use electric cattle prods and such to move them, but how else are you going to move a possibly aggressive animal weighing a ton? :p
I've been to a few Rodeos and enjoyed them :).
I basically just don't like them. What they "might" do to the animals isn't the reason whatsoever... simply the fact that it bores me to an extent is the reason. Some things said about rodeos are highly overrated and exaggerated.. some information people hear is rather misleading. I've been to a rodeo once in my life. I found that there wasn't much to complain about on how they treat the animals..... atleast thats how it was at this rodeo.
It's the same way where I'm from. The rodeo is a huge event and kids get out of school for it. They have 2 big rodeos each year, one in October and the other in February and a bunch of smaller events throughout the year. The one in February is HUGE. Along with the rodeo in February they have a fair and a pageant and lots of things.Quote:

no, I HATE them!
I actually went to a rodeo last weekend. I always enjoy watching the bull riders, for some reason. The bulls knew what they had to do, they went out there, bucked the person off and went right to the gate so they could go back to their pen. They didn't seem like they were hurt or suffering in any way. I also like the barrell racing, it looks like so much fun! The only thing I think I cringed at was roping. Two men on horses went after a calf, the first person got it around the horns and the second person had to get the rope around the back feet. Then the two riders always seemed to pull the rope tight so the poor baby looked like it was going to lose a leg, it was hard for me to watch. Or sometimes the first person would drag the calf on the ground by its horns :( Oh! Another thing I didn't like is that they called out all kids 7-12 and let 5 sheep loose with them. The sheep had ribbons attached to them and the point of this "game" was for the kids to run after the sheep and get the ribbons. The sheep looked terrified and I felt so bad. But overall, it was pretty fun, the animals all looked healthy and happy, and I'll probably go again!
Heh, yup! How long do they get out of school there? In Pendleton, they get out for the whole week that Round Up is in session. They have events all around too, lots of carnivals!Quote:

I agree, I'd rather spend my time somewhere else than at the rodeo. It's just not that entertaining for me. I don't care if anyone else goes, it just a personal entertainment preference! :D
In Pendleton, the kids on probation get to scrape the paint off the stalls and repaint them. Heh.
I like the ones Jenna described. IF the animal has any discomfort, even the slightest, I am agianst it. Why? because if an person hates discomfort so does an animal, and why should an animal feel something like that? Some rodeos even neglect their animals, I saw this on "Animal Priecent"
Watched enough of them on TV to say i like them
Rodeos are great. :)
Most of you younins are missing the point. Rodeos have cowboys and they have wrangler jeans on. Ummm I love rodeos!!!! :D
