It's 11:25am and I just got off the phone with the vet. Daisy's blood work all came back normal and combined with the fact that she is still not eating and what she drinks comes right back up, he has concluded that it is a blockage and rather than incur the expense and the trauma to her, he has chosen not to do the barium series and do surgery. Also, he did another X-ray and the intestine is even more distended than it was yesterday. He was going to put her on the table right after we hung up and he said the surgery takes about 2-3 hours and that it is a VERY serious operation and she won't be able to come home for 2 or 3 days. I'm hoping that he will come in on the holiday weekend and let us take her home. He is supposed to call me when he finishes surgery. He also made me feel a little bit better when he told me that he has done many of these surgeries and is quite comfortable with it and that peritonitis/death is the worse cast scenario, but wanted me to be aware that it might happen.
And thank you Candy...I am a NERVOUS WRECK!!! I'm only not falling apart because I'm at school and I'm not going to go nuts in front of my students!!
Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers and I'm sure they will help Daisy in her recovery!!
Molly
...hoping big beautiful Daisy will get that nasty whatever-it-is outta her tummy! I know you'll post just as soon as you hear something, Molly, but I'm feeling impatient anyway.
:)
you and me both kobieeli!! I think the best place for me though is at school so I don't obsess on it. Thanks again for your kind thoughts!
Molly,
You, Daisy & all the whole gang are in my thoughts and
prayers. Please don't feel alone, we are ALL with you in our
hearts & minds. Hope you can report good news later.
Hugs & Positive thoughts, Liz & Buddy.
I'll be thinking about your little sweetheart.
Wow, what a dramatic and scary event for you and Daisy! Of course, these things always happen right near a holiday - or at 4:45 on a friday afternoon....
I hope you get a quick and positive result from the surgery - best wishes to your whole gang - especially Daisy and her humans!
Molly:
Hope Daisy will do fine during and after surgery. Prayers and possitive thoughts for a quick recovery from Carina and Alicia.
Dear Molly, we are hoping that surgery is now over and that Daisy Mae is resting comfortably. What a stressful time for you, I know. :( But we're all with you and sending you and Daisy our prayers. Please check in when you can. Love Sandra, Star and Cody
Praying surgery goes well and that you will have your sweet Daisy home soon.
I talked to the vet...God that man is infuriating! He said surgery went well and they found...are you ready...a LEASH. The girl I talked to said that Daisy was awake, but loopy(she said she acted drunk) and they were going to take her out and try to get her to go to the bathroom, but I guess she didn't go. The vet said that the earliest he would let her go home was Saturday (Mike said that she WAS coming home on Saturday), and that the first 48 hours were the most critical. I'm going to call in the morning (or Mike is) and see how she's doing and we'll let you all know.
OMG! Molly I am so glad to hear that Daisy is OK, but are you serious about her ingesting a leash? Perhaps when she's back home to heal from the surgery you and Mike could sit her down and explain to her what the "normal" procedure for asking for a walk is....
I have seen and heard of some strange things ingested by dogs, but that one takes the cake.
Please be OK, Miss Daisy Mae. I am sure your mom and dad will take you for a walk when you get all better.
Good Grief Daisy
I have never heard of such a thing. Please
don't scare your people like that again...
Mugsy,
Daisy is where she needs to be right now.Hope
she has pleasant dreams and a quiet night to
rest up & regain her strength. Will keep up with
the prayers & Best Wishes for You, Daisy & gang.
A leash???? Oh, dear! This one is a PT first, I think!! So glad to hear the surgery went well. I agree that the best place for her right now is at the hospital Mugsy. I know how anxious you must be. Still, I'm sure they want to monitor her intake and output for a day or so. Try not to worry. I'm sure she's in good hands until she's back with you and the gang. Get well and healing prayers for Daisy Mae!
I'm sorry, but I do NOT understand what would possess a dog to eat a leash! That's one for Ripley's Believe It or Not!
I'm so happy her surgery went well, though. Daisy probably needs a lot of rest and peace after that ordeal...:D
