Haha, I'm sure they are real too.
Justin recently finished writing a content management system for a big company. It's so straight forward and easy, I can't imagine anyone not being able to use it (which is totally the point of a CMS). Well The main guy that will be using the CMS is totally lost and clueless. The CMS actually not much different than this forum, all he has to do is go to where he needs to edit or post and then hit 'submit'.
I believe they were real calls. About twelve years ago, the place where I work decided that everyone needed a computer at their desk and some went to people who had never used one before. A systems tech told me that he'd seen a few people pick up the mouse and run it over the screen, believing that the mouse itself had to be over an icon in order to be selected.
I believe most of them were real. Computers are very smart. As soon as they see you have no idea they really treat you badly. We have a printer in the office that hates women. If it doesn't work the IT guy has to come and just lay his hand on it (I have seen that too often to doubt:p ) - and then it runs.
One more stupid joke: Here in Germany the East Frisians are what the blondes are internationally and there was this old joke that said- How can you say there was an East Frisian at your computer? Because there is Tippex on the screen.
My sister works for a GSM company and she gets all these ammendments to the contracts written and signed by customers. You'd wonder how do they know what a mobile phone is... We have an entire collection of these requests.
I really believe these are true calls. I worked in a call center for Cingular for a while and let me tell you, the problems some people have with thier cell phones is quite funny. A co worker got a call from a lady who insisted that she didn't do anything abnormal to her phone but it just wouldn't turn on then my co worker heard in the background the ladys small child saying "But mommy, you dropped the phone in the potty!" lol
