Dogs had Chicken, nothing exciting, because my boyfriend was in charge of feeding them tonight
Raven ate her first raw meal tonight! She had some small pieces of chicken when i got home, she LOVED it :)
The pups just had one big meal of tripe today.. because I was too lazy to feed breakfast this morning. =P
I gotta say though, I love feeding raw. The other day I didn't have anything for dinner, so I took one of their chicken legs and cooked it for myself. :p
They had beef heart this morning, and will be getting beef tongue for dinner.

Kiki also got this... yum yum!
I FINALLY got my butt over to the Surrey Meat Packers and bought Bailey 60 pounds of beef for $40.00. It is ground up and includes muscle meat, fat, bones and organs - plus some other parts of the cow. It is cut into 1 1/4-2 pound portions, which makes it alot easier for me to bag them. He will be getting this for 20 days @ 3 pounds per day. We felt the extra pound of food he was getting probably didn't make much of a difference so we are cutting it down to 3 pounds.
He will still be getting REC bones for chewing and fish 1X per week. When this beef is done, I will be buying 44 pounds of chicken backs/necks for $29.00, plus another 50 pounds of either lamb, duck, buffalo or turkey (it is all ground and cut into portions as well) - they are insanely cheap there - and I just found out they sell rabbit for $5.99/pound.
He is going to be one happy boy! :D
:D I love Surrey Meat Packers! I need to place my order for 20 pounds of Tripe. Yum yum. :p I picked up the 44 pound box of chicken backs/necks, 10 pounds of buffalo, 10 pounds of beef and some organs for under $70 bucks. It would easily last us months. I was amazed!
Anywho, the boys had chicken bones today. I noticed some tarter on Kaedyn's teeth so they'll be getting more bones for the next little while.
Happy gotcha day, Kiara! Yay, you had a bone :) and a lot of other good stuff!
Ashley & Bailey's mom, I am so so jealous. ;x

Snowy had chicken again this morning + a slice of beef liver.
I have a question for raw feeders. How often do you feed your dogs raw eggs? I have lots of eggs because they are cheap when you buy 15 of them but I don't know how often I should give one to Snowy.
I rarely give Bailey an egg, but I might start giving him an egg 1X per week. :)Quote:

I give them about 3x a week. :)Quote:

My dogs ate 2 cups of Dog Show, 2 spoonfulls of Kirkland Canned Food, and 1 chopped up carrot in their food this morning. :)
Nova and Buck had some beef brisket when we woke up. It was thundering really bad and Mandy and Luka didn't want to eat.
I can't go full raw yet (just can't afford it unless I can buy it in bulk and I don't have a freezer for that, but I plan to). But I was getting groceries for myself this morning and picked up some bone-in organic chicken, and chicken organ meats. Since I only have myself to feed now really, I can afford to at least supplement their EVO with some raw. At first it was so tempting to go all out and get all kinds of different meats, but I want to start slow and move gradually. They've been kibble fed their whole lives so I don't want to overwhelm their systems.
Still it felt great and I am excited :D.
Didn't have time to feed them raw tonight so they got:
Simba:
3/4 cup TimberWolf Organics
Spoonful of cottage cheese
Nala:
1 1/4 cup TimberWolf Organics
Spoonful of Cottage Cheese
Kiara:
1 cup Canine Caviar
1/2 cup TimberWolf Organics
Spoonful of Cottage Cheese
Lady-
Slice of Beef Liver
1/2 cup Canidae
2 Fish oil pills
Toby-
Slice of Beef Liver
1/2 cup Canidae
2 Fish Oil Pills
This was their first time having liver, and it was gone within 2 seconds! They loved it!
Yesterday they each had an egg on their Canidae.
This morning Visa had mixed venison meat and organs, a pork hock, Club Canine fruit/veggie mix, marine oil, flaxseed, kelp, and honey.
For dinner she is getting ground beef, oxtail, an egg, yogurt, and Biovet.
They had whiting fish for dinner.
They had VERY meaty beef ribs for dinner Friday night.
Sat am:
beef
egg
spleen
Sat night:
whole salmon
tomato
egg & shell
Sun am:
venison
yogurt
Sun pm:
chicken quarters & livers
Mon am
ziti, I cleaned out the fridge again. lol
They had their first raw egg today. Everyone took it willingly, Bon had his gone in no time but the girls weren't as sure. Huney broke hers open and cleaned out the inside and left the shell (which Bon ate). I had to coat Roxey into breaking hers and then she licked the inside and ate some of the shell (of course Bon cleaned up the rest of that too).
So far they are loving their diet.
I have just one question...
Do your dogs drink less water on the raw diet than when they were on kibble?
They finished off the chicken thighs and some chicken breast meat tonight & some flaxseed and Livamol.
Livamol is fine for cats and dogs aswell, not just livestock ;). The dogs love it.
Bailey drinks much less water now! :DQuote:

Yep, and that's because there's so much water in their food. :)Quote:

Thanks for the replies Crazy Cat Lover and Binka Nuggets.
Snowy had beef stewing and some pork ribs yesterday.
She will have chicken wing again today + lamb kidney and offcourse an egg cause I've got plenty of them :p
Like the others, Snowy has been drinking less water since I switched her diet to raw.
William our dogs get eggs a couple of times a week, and sardines on non egg days ;). Anna i have found that our dogs drink less aswell, they realy only drink alot after exercise.. but then they are not allowed to drink too much as i am paranoid about bloat.
Tonight they had beef mince, chicken mince, carrot, sweet patato and their supplements.
Last night:
meaty beef ribs
chicken quarter
This morning:
pork (small amount)
cottage cheese
chicken liver
some had a small piece of chicken left over from last night
Glad to hear that my three are not the only ones that are drinking less. Makes me feel better:)
One more question...
For those of you with more than one dog how do you feed them? Separately or together? In a crate? Outside?
I ask this because I'm not quite happy with our arrangement and I'm thinking of putting them all in their crates to eat.
Not that there has ever been a fight or anything, but I know it could possibly happen and Bon is so much bigger than the girls (especially Huney). He's usually done before them and starts sniffing around their food.
So I just want to know how you feed.
They're going to have turkey drumsticks when I get home for lunch.
William - I meant to answer your question :o They can have eggs as often as their system allows it. My dogs get them 1 or 2 times a week, but usually that's because I don't usually feed in bowls, and the girls all like their egg cracked before they'll eat it. ;)
I feed outside. I have an Xpen set up with two outside beds in it. Luka and Buck eat in the Xpen and Mandy and Nova eat on the deck outside of it. Mandy has food aggression issues but Nova is smart enough to leave her alone.Quote:

Mandy usually eats on the mat in front of the door, but sometimes she does stand there. I hand out the food next to that railing where she is standing ;)
It really depends on what they are eating & what the weather is like.Quote:

This gets a little tricky/confusing now.
If I can watch their every move the entire time they eat I feed them all at once (no one needs to be on a tie out when I am there to watch them at all times). As soon as one finishes I put them inside. I've never had any problems what so ever with them fighting but sometimes one will try to steel the others food (usually Kaige) if they finish first. My dogs are very well mannered, often times they will give their meat up to anyone or anything that tries to take it away (especially Nanook).
If I can not watch their every move (but I do still keep a good eye on them) I will feed only a couple/few at a time. Nanook is never leashed so he picks a spot outside of the tie outs where he can not be reached by any of the other dogs. All of the other dogs are on tie outs when I am not out there with them the entire time. I feed in the same order everytime (Nanook, Raustyk, Kaige then Indy) so Raustyk will always eat with Nanook. I will sometimes let Kaige eat at the same time as Raustyk & Nanook, that is only IF he has something that will last him a while because the 2 tie outs can reach each other and he may try to steel Raustyk's if he finishes first. If it's a chicken quarter or something else that he is known to eat faster than the other dogs then I usually wait until Raustyk is done eating (or just finishing up) before I feed Kaige. Which will obviously mean that Indy will sometimes eat alone, other times she will eat with Kaige.
If it is raining, snowing or extremely hot outside (or any other type of bad weather) they eat inside. I feed pretty much the same as above only it is inside and they are forced to eat on towels, linoleum and or in their crates (all for sanitary reasons ONLY). Depending on what they eat & where they prefer to eat decides who gets to eat when & who gets to eat with who.
If they get any grond meat, canned meats (salmon, mackeral, etc..) or anything else that is not a lartge chunk it gets put right into their bowl & eat all at the same time, just like they would if it was kibble.
Nanook NEVER tries to take food away from any of the other dogs.
Kaige is the ONLY one who will try to take Nanooks food. Then again Kaige will kind of try to take anyones food, but usually doesn't ever get it away from Raustyk. He just begs at her when she eats. lol
Raustyk NEVER tries to take food from Nanook. She will only try to take away Kaige or Indy's food if they are eating it really slowly, like they are not interested or getting full.
Indy will only try to take Kaiges food, and she will only try to take it if he doesn't seem that interested and it something that she REALLY likes (she's not TOO keen on some pieces of chicken). BUT if you feed anything in a bowl Indy will sometimes try to nudge right in with Raustyk or Kaige. In that case I need to direct her out of the kitchen as soon as she finishes any food that is fed in a bowl.
Geesh I hope I got all that right, more so I hope it was easy to understand. lol
For those of you with more than one dog how do you feed them? Separately or together? In a crate? Outside?
Anna it realy depends on the weather. At the moment they are eating inside and everone gets fed at the same time. If they are getting bones or other large chunky meat then i will just hand it strait to them and they take their food to their beds.
If they are getting mince, sardines, egg etc their bowls are in different corners of the room. Sometimes they have different meals and one will finish before the others so who ever finished first is either put in a stay whilst the others finished or tossed a whole carrot to amuse them for a minute more.
If they brake their stay or inhale their carrot and try to steal the others food then they are put outside for a time out. Also i watch them at all times.
I feed my three in the backyard. They know better than to mess with eachother. Sometimes they will trying to lick out of eachother's bowls but a stern "NO" fixes that.
Tonight my three are having:
Chicken Breasts
Beef Chunks
Carrots
Yogurt
Romaine Lettuce
Tomato
Banana
For bones, (as bad as it sounds) I let them eat wherever they want. Kaedyn usually carries it to the living room carpet [I don't care because the carpet is old, not white, and as far as I know, no one puts their mouth on the carpet. =P] Kai carries it to his crate or to another room, away from Kaedyn. For things they can't carry away, I put the bowls down in the kitchen right by each other.. they're pretty good about staying away from each other's food. Kai eats too fast for Kaedyn to steal it, and Kaedyn eats, never leaving his bowl, so that Kai can't have any. =PQuote:

They both got kibble yesterday, because I was soooo sick and I could not even look at raw meat :p. I feel better today, so I tried to make it up to them with yummy stuff.
