Great news there Phred - many thanks.
Andy don't worry about the drains coming out - a couple of BIG breaths and it's done. You'll feel so much better then - and of course will want to eat LOTS!
Kimmy - hope your managing with all this going on - am keeping you in my prayers as well as Andy {{{{Hugs}}}} across the miles.xxxx

Morning all! :)
Andy gave me a call late last night. Said you had called Phred. :)
He's still nervous about the tube removal hurting, but I hopefully calmed him down. Told him to give me a call before they do it.
:)
Thanks for the uppydate. Not a day goes by that I don't say a special prayer for you and Andy. Gosh, I'd be nervous too, but I'm sure once it's out he will feel a whole lot better. Released on Saturday, now that something to celebrate.
{{{HUGS}}}
Called Andy at 10 and the doctor had just arrived to take the tube out. I'll be calling back in a bit to see how it went.
Just got off the phone with Andy.
The chest tube is out and he is wrapped up real tight.
He said it hurt a lot and felt like his chest was being crushed on that side. He went rigid and started hyperventilating. Not good. He said the doctors and nurses were trying real hard to calm him down.
He was out of breath when I talked to him. Poor guy. The doc told him to rest and try to sleep and keep breathing normally. No hyperventilating or too shallow of breaths.
They'll keep an eye on him, take some x-rays later, and if all looks good, he can go home tonight! :D
Well, even if it was painful, he's done now! Yeah!!!! :) I hope today will go well and he can go home. I know that will be the best medicine, next to seeing you, of course!! ;)
Oh my gosh HOME TONIGHT!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed all day!!!
Wow! I've been following this thread and Andy's progress and I'm happy to hear the tube is out! Poor thing...I must have hurt quite a lot! :( Prayers are still on the way for Andy and especially for a good x-ray so he can go home! I really think that being at home will be helpful for a quick and full recovery. That nurse Kia will be a sigt for sore eyes, I'm sure!
Andy, be sure to eat a lot this Thanksgiving!!! :p
**hugs**

What happened to the "24 Hour Observation" period?
Going Home is GOOD! :)
But going home Too Soon  is a lil scary!
Are they *short* on beds?? :p
Glad it's OVER - sorry it was a bit painful!
Let all this ordeal be a reminder, Andy ~
EAT Rite & Exercise!
:D

Sounds like the worst of it is over now - the tube is out!! Hurray, time to celebrate!! :D
When my mom and dad were in a bad car accident a few years ago, my dad had some sort of tube in his chest also. He was unconcious for, like, 48 hours or something like that, and when he finally woke up he was a little "loony in the head" since he took a blow to his head. I can remember visiting him after they took the tube out and we asked how he was doing and if the doctor had been in. He said, and I quote, "Yeah that someb***h was here. Poked me a cupla times, punched me in the chest then left!" I remember looking at my brother and we both rolled our eyes and laughed. The nurses had told us he had the chest tube taken out and that it hurts a lot when they do it, so we knew what he was talking about. :D
Good to hear the news just keeps getting better! Now if we can just keep the boy eating like he should, we'll soon be home free!:)
Andy just had x-rays done. The lung specialist mentioned that if there is still a leak, a new chest tube will need to be put in.
Wouldn't it of been smarter to take X-rays before removing the chest tube then?!
Andy asks for good vibes! He's nervous as you may expect.
If there is no problem, he can go home tonight. On Tuesday he'll go back to have the stitches taken out and after that will start some form of physical therapy.
Hope the X-rays look good!!
I'll be in St. Luois this weekend, but do my best to keep up with any new news, and will certainly be thinking about you guys!!!
Just what I was thinking Kim!Quote:

Will they really send him home tonight? Seems very quick -compared with over here. Surely a full day after tube withdrawl would be better?
I bet he can't wait to get home though can he? Then he can get seriously fed!!!!

I hope the x-rays look good, and Andy is back home real soon!
