Ok, so that's not true, but look what I did to my little sweetie pie!
 What happened?
We were gone over the 4th of July weekend and got back home Tuesday night. T & P were extra lovey dovey since they missed us. I missed them so much too, so last night Peanut was sitting looking pretty and I just couldn't help but pick her up and smooch on her. Well, when I went to put her down, she "freaked out" and jumped out of my arms before I could set her down nicely. She does this on occassion so it was nothing unusual, until she starting walking away and she was limping! At first it didn't seem so bad, but then it must have started hurting more because she would only take a few steps and then stop and sit down.
I checked out her paws and legs and the sore spot seems to be her left "elbow." That's the only part that she flinched and meowed when I touched it.
I called the vet this morning and they couldn't get me in, so I did the next best thing and called Kim! I'm sure Kim was surprised to hear me on the other end of the line, but I needed some quick expert advice as to whether she thought the vet could wait. Since Peanut is acting completely normal except for being less mobile and limping - she even came in and begged for treats as usual this morning - Kim and I decided it would be ok to put the vet off for a little and that I should keep an eye on poor little Peanut. I've got two appointments for her tomorrow, one at 8:30 am and one at 5:00 pm - with different vets. That way if she looks better in the morning and I decide not to take her then, we've still got the 5:00 pm one as back up.
I feel totally guilty, and seeing as how Peanut is such a daddy's little girl, Terry isn't helping the matter any by making me feel like it's all my fault too.
I so wish I had a video camera hooked up at home so I could keep an eye on her today. Maybe once Terry gets back home he'll call and give me an update....
My poor little girl. :(
Oh, and does anyone know, as women age their bones get more brittle and we have bone loss, does anyone know if that applies to kitties too? I would think so, but I guess I've never heard specifically so I was just wondering.
And another Oh, I called the emergency vet last night when it happened and he suggested that I just keep an eye on her. He said that the way I described it he didn't think anything was broken and she probably just strained or sprained her leg(?). He said with a sprain like that there is nothing they can do except let it heal so it didn't pay to bring her in anyway - unless it got worse. SAS, are you there? Is this similar to what your vet said when Graemer sprained his leg?
Oh Debbie ..... Peanut does look pitiful ... but like we discussed, if it were hurting really bad, she wouldn't be putting any weight on it! I'm sure it's fine ... but a vet check will certainly ease your mind! I know all about the Daddy guilt trip thing ... Jerry LOVES to do that to me too!
It was so nice to hear from you this morning, sorry I wasn't more alert .... you probably heard my alarm clock go off while we were chatting! hehehe! I promise I have a little more clarity of mind, and am not at such a loss of words, if you call me later in the day! :D
Love and Hugs to sweet Peanut! Waiting to hear good news from the vet!
Kim;)
oh - poor little Peanut - such a sad limp.:(
Now Peanut darling - as a cat it is up to you to milk this out for as long as possible. Even when your leg gets better, you need to limp around the humans so that they shower you with pity and attention.
and what ever you do, don't make the mistake that our kitty once made when she was limping for attention - but with the wrong leg.
get well soon sweetie.:)
They will probably xray it. Then I think they can give her a pain med but will probably not....and just tell you to keep her quiet for a few days until it heals. The xray should show if it is broken or sprained. My guess is a pull of some sort. Poor old girl. I walk like that some mornings.
Keep us posted!
SAS
Oh poor Peanut. She looks so pitiful limping.
Disney sprained her leg several years ago when she jumped off the deck chaising a bone hubby threw. The vet didn't do anything for her but told us to come back if she got worse or if she was still limping as badly after three days. He said he would give her someting for inflamation at that point but it wasn't needed. It took her a week or so to completely quit limping but I could see an improvement in her everyday.
I hope Peanut feels better soon.
Oh, poor Peanut, it does a bit painful, and I'm sure she's not faking it! I think she'll be feeling better in a few days, though. :)
Give her lots of gentle smootchies from me! :)
Poor Peanut! You hurt your widdle leg! I hope it feels better this afternoon.
Poor Peanut! I sure hope she gets better fast and doesn't require a visit to the white coats. Air kissies to Peanut! :( :)
How's about we smooch Peanut back to health?
Poor baby, I'm glad I can't download the clip....
Smoochies needed?
Smoochies sent!
Aww, poor Peanut. Don't feel guilty!! It's not your fault :(
I bet she'll be ok soon. Maybe her bones are a little more sensitive cause of her age
Poor Peanut!!! Get well soon, heres a virtual Catnip tea to make you feel better!!!
LOL ....isn't that the truth....Quote:
I walk like that some mornings.
I'm betting Peanut will be fine....
That sounds like something that happened to Max a while ago only to his back end and that was after a running spurt. It could be just a pulled muscle like Max. All paws and fingers crossed here that it's nothing serious.
Poor girl Peanut: at our age we have to be careful with our limbs;)
However I think she'll be ok:)
Thanks everyone. I can't wait to get home and find out how she's doing now that she's probably rested all day. And another thing I forgot to mention was that I think Tubby knew she was hurt because seeing as how she was more imobile, he could very easily have taken advantage of the situation and licked her to death. But he didn't. He didn't lick on her at all, just sniffed her a bit and then left her alone. :)
Kim - I'm sorry if I woke you and that would explain the confusion at first. I was thinking you were an hour ahead but after I thought about it you're on Central time too, aren't you?
Catland - if she milks it at all I'm sure it'll be to her daddy most of all since she knows she has him wrapped around her little paw. :D
SAS - thanks, that's about what I figured they'd do. And yes, some mornings I walk like that too. ;)
Jazzcat - thanks for letting me know about how long to expect it to be like this. After a week of limping she'll probably weigh 25 pounds just because I'll try and appease my guilt by giving her treats.
Slick - yes, I had forgotten about Max's leg! I hope he's doing better now too.
Everyone else - thanks so much for the well wishes. However, her daddy will have to administer the smoochies since I swore I wouldn't smooch on her anymore if this is what she's going to do to get out of it. ;) Well.....maybe if I smooch on her while she's laying down instead of me picking her up......
Hey woomie! P: >^._.^<
Ear-lickies at ya ta make ya feel better! I'll even roll in catnip to send catnip vibes. You look like your ouchie is very sore. Puuuurrrr.
Livvy L: >^._.^<
Yes, Debbie ... I am on Central time also ... and was heavily under the "influence" of a good sleeping pill!!! I'm sorry I seemed odd at first ..... I hope to talk to you by phone another time when I am more "normal"!!! :D
Kim
:(
Poor PeaNutter!
We'll kross Pawz & Klawz an hope you Feel Better real SOON!
Deb ~
I know JUST how you feel!
Many years ago, when Furst Kat Fred was just a tiny kitten -
I was holding her in my arms when she decided she'd
had enough "lovin" - and leaped to my shoulder and
launched herself off into  *SPACE*...
She landed with a heart-stopping *THUD* - on her HEAD! :(
I thought for sure I'd killed her...
But she staggered to her feet;
wandered in a circle slowly *shaking* her head;
gave a couple "silent" MeOOOOOws...
and scampered off! :D
Best anyone could determine -
the Klunk on da Head had no lasting effects on her! :D
Here's *hoping* both Peanut AND Terry forgive you!
;)
Ohhh poor Peanut!! :( :( I hope she's feeling better soon. It's no fun having an owie. *hugs and smoochies*
How are things with Peanut tonight Debbie??
Debbie .... we need an update!!!
It does sound like she sprained it. She'll probably get an anti-inflammatory injection if she goes to the vet.
Phoebe sprained her little leg when she was younger too. Silly furbies!
Kisses to Peanut. :)
I have been so busy at work (yes they are actually making me work this week!) that I haven't had time to post!
I'm so sorry Peanut got hurt! Bless her heart she looked so pitiful in the video. I'm sure within a few days she will be fine though. However Debbie, I do think that stopping her smooches and snuggles would not be a good idea! Kitties must be smooched at all costs!!! Besides, what's the first thing your supposed to do about a boo boo? Kiss it and make it better!!!!:D :D http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/o...es/biggrin.gif
Let us know the pretty girl is doing and we are hoping for just a mild strain!
We hope that our Friend Peanut,is feelinf beeter Son,as The Found Cats hate to see a cat Limping! We Love You, Peanut!
Sorry it took awhile for the uppydate, but my two week reprieve from school is over and I have to fit that into my schedule again.
So last night was awful. If anything I thought she was worse. She would only take two or three steps and then stop and sit down, then lay down and not move. Then about an hour later she'd get up, take two more steps, stop, sit down, then lay down. I was almost ready to take her to the emergency vet again, but knew I had the appointment first thing in the morning (which reminds me I need to cancel the 5:00 pm appointment!).
We were all up in the loft and it appeared she wanted to go down the stairs, so I picked her up and carried her down. Once on the first floor she headed for the laundry room, which leads to the basement and food and litter, so I picked her up and carried her down there. Then about 1/2 hour later I went down and carried her back up. I brought her in bed with me and she snuggled and purred for awhile, then when it looked like she was going to jump down  I picked her up and put her down and she limped off. :(
I hardly slept since I was so worried, but then this morning I almost tripped over her when I went to the bathroom! She had followed me in there and wanted skirtchies! I was so happy! She followed me around a little more, then did the sit down thing. She was so improved over last night I couldn't believe it! Knowing how upset she gets at the vet, I almost didn't take her thinking it was getting better on its own, but then I thought no, she has the appointment she's going. Better to be safe than sorry.
So I took her in and it turns out she has bursitis! Bursitis is when the soft "lubricant" type stuff between the joints gets inflamed. The vet has it himself, so he said it feels like someone is sticking a needle right in the muscle - ouchie! My poor baby! He said it's hard to say if she had this before and the jump aggrivated it or if the jump caused it.
Since she's already on prednisolone he didn't give her a cortisone shot to reduce inflammation. He did say I should give her a St. Joseph's baby aspirin once every 3 days for the pain. He said she should only need one or maybe two before it starts feeling better.
When we got home and she got out of the carrier - well, let's just say I've never seen her move so fast to get away from me. :( ;) But I did catch her and give her the baby aspirin so she should be feeling a lot better by the time I get home tonight.
Sorry to write a novel about this, but for some reason I just can't keep my posts short - no matter how hard I try!
Oh, and the vet said that she might need bifocals soon. ;) Her eyes are starting to get cloudy which is normal in older kitties and is similar to our eyes aging, causing us to need bifocals. Terry should be thrilled when I tell him that. He simply rejects any idea that she's getting older.
Awwwww, poor widdle Peanut! She’s just too cute to be in any kind of pain.
Glad she’s feeling better! Now Peanut, you be good and don’t aggravate your poor little bones, ok? And the next time your mommy gives you a smooch, let her put you down! No bolting unless your feet are already touching the floor, ok?
Glad to see she is improving!!
You have to be careful when you get older Peanut!!! Dad has what your talking about Debbie and says the vets discription is pretty acurate. Poor Peanut, no wonder she was limping!!
It's hell getting old isn't it Peanut, but meowme and paw paw are there to give you pleanty of loving, just don't go flying off the handle again!
OK... now I see the update!! Thanks Debbie ... I've been worried about sweet Peanut! Yep, sounds like she is just experiencing the joys of the aging woman's body!! ;) Glad to hear it wasn't a break though, and there is a fairly simple solution to relieve her discomfort!
HUGS TO PEANUT!
Kim:)
Poor Peanut is showing the signs of aging. I'm glad to hear she didn't sprain or break anything.
Get well quickly, sweet Peanut!
Ouchie!! Poor girl. Glad to hear it wasn't anything more serious, though. I hope she feels better ASAP. How old is she (pardon the rude question, Peanut)? :)
Kitty bifocals? What do those look like??
Aww! Poor sweet Peanutter. You know what they say, old age ain't for sissies! I hope the baby aspirin helps relieve the pain. Now for the kitty bifocals, we really WILL need a picture of that! ;)
She's about 15 1/2 now, so she's getting old, but not old yet. ;) :DQuote:

Pics of kitty bifocals coming up....probably next week sometime. ;) :D
Thanks everyone! I also forgot to mention that yes, I have been smooching on her for all of you. Although she was on the floor at the time and I was laying down next to her so as not to hurt her again. ;) :D
Please give Peanut a huge smooch and hug for me because I can feel her pain. I had bursitis in my hip last year and I thought I was going to die for a while. I know mostly older people (and pets) get it but I was only 35 at the time. Want to know how I got it? From Jazz sleeping between my knees every night for several months straight. When it wasn't getting any better from taking pain relievers my doctor finally said it was time for a shot in the hip. I told him to wait another week, evicted poor Jazzy baby from my bed and within a week the pain relievers began to help. It took well over a month to get better but I had suffered for a long time already so no biggy.
Anyway, poor Peanut. I hope she feels better soon.
ohhh, poor Peanut! I am sorry to hear about her leg! But I am glad she's getting better.
Juni and Pichu send their nosekisses. Me too.
Ohhh, poor Peanut, I've totally missed this! Mine are also jumping down from my arm sometimes and it looks scary, and I often wondered if anything could happen...
Poor Peanut looked so miserable in that video!! Hopefully the meds will help her to feel better soon. But was that bursitis caused by that incident or did the jump only make it worse?
However, she doesn't seem to blame you for that, she still loves to cuddle with you!
Get well soon, sweet Peanut!!
Kirsten
Hmmmm I wonder if some Cosequin would help Peanut? Poor girl....but glad it's not a fracture! I have a client that I kitty sit for (I dread those times) and her cat Jesabelle is a diabetic and very overweight. (No insinuations Peanut...you look purrfect) ;) Poor Jesabelle came very close to getting a needle filled with euthanasia drugs, as she started peeing all over Annes home. After numerous vet visits I took the liberty one day of dumping her litter into the storage bins that the smaller litterbox was in, and the problem went away overnight! :) Jesabelle has been on Cosequin for a while now, and it really seems to help her aging body....so maybe it would help Peanut also?
Poor Peanut....Take it easy sweetie pie. I'm glad to hear you are feeling better than yesterday, but be sure to take your aspirin and get plenty of rest. Here's some virtual gentle kisses. Kisses have healing power :D
