I'm going to take the warning to heart, I don't think I can look!

Oh
My
Goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How is that dog alive?!?! She is obviously and angel on earth. God Bless her and my prayers are with her. There is nothing else I can say..... :(
That poor, poor baby! It is truly a miracle that she is alive.
I hope she is able to live the rest of her life as a pampered pup.
Oh that poor baby!! When I looked at that site it brought chills down my spine. I cannot believe that she is alive. I hope and pray that the she makes it through ok. No animal deserves that kind of treatment. How sad. :(
Oh my goodness!!! Hope is the perfect name for that poor little angel. I pray she gets adopted soon and taken care of the way she deserves. I hope she can overcome all of her problems and be truly loved. What a sad story, what a frighteningly skinny body, and yet what a pretty face.
Poor baby! I'm glad that she is now under the protection of people who care.
I just called and left a message to see if there is anything Mike and I can do to help this poor baby. As you know, we can't turn down any dog and we would surely take her if they needed us to. I wish the same fate on the stupid people who dumped her. I'm sorry I know that is harsh but I get unbelieavably angry when I see how cruel people can be to their pets who give them nothing but unconditional love even when treated the way Hope was obviously treated.
That picture is a shock to look at. Hard to beleive that she is alive and standing. Thank god for who ever found her and got her help. Somethilng to be learned for humans also is - the will that dog had to survive is not to give up hope on anything.
I will pray for this sweet dog. I also hope that who ever left her behind will see this picture & think about it everday and carry that burdon.
That broke me.Quote:

She brings Hope to us all. What an angel. She is obviously destined to bring love to someone on this planet.

Yes, when I saw it, I couldn't believe she was still alive. I wonder if she was dumped or got lost? She'll probably still have medical problems because of her extreme low weight. I pray for this poor furkid. I hope she finds a wonderful forever home!
What a poor angel. It makes you wonder if they should have billboards around the country with her picture and a message to show people that when they dump their dogs, it is not more humane than taking them to the humane society and that starvation is not pretty. And that dogs that are dumped rarely are picked up by people.

What a shocking picture. It brings back so many memories. My stray was almost that bad when I found her a little over a year ago. She had long hair so it was hard to see from a distance how starved she was but once you felt her, you could tell. It's so frustrating knowing that there are so many more out there that will not make it to a shelter or who will not be picked up. I wish there was a way of finding the owners and giving them what they deserve.
I talked to Julie at the rescue last night on the phone and she may be joining the forum. She said that Hope should weigh about 50 pounds and she weighed 29 when she came in and then lost 2 pounds. She is doing much better and takes insulin twice a day and must be fed 3 times a day. Julie walks her every day and she said that Hope learned the route in 4 days and has it totally memorized. They pretty much have the diabetes under control now it's just getting weight on her.

My Vet told me not to feed my dog puppy food, to feed her regular dog food and keep it down at all times for her because she had to build her stomach up again. Her body wasn't used to food and he said to let her ease into it herself. She only weighed 40 and should have weighed 85. Patience, fortunately, didn't have any medical problems like poor Hope does.Quote:

Thank you for all of your kind words and prayers for Hope!! I truly appreciate your support! As long as I have been doing rescue work this is the worst I have ever seen and again I am amazed that she is alive as is everyone else. Her progress is slow but she is in good spirits. She is an angel and loves everybody. Eventhough she cannot see you she looks at you and your heart instantly melts. We are working on getting weight put on her and getting her diabetes regulated. She was probably never treated for her diabetes. Now she is in heat-the poor thing was never spayed. Hopefully this will not hinder her recovery. It is awful because she is uncomfortable. It will be a while before she can undergo surgery. We are hoping that in the near future we can take her to an eye specialist to see if her cataracts can be removed and have some or all of her sight restored. I am praying for this to happen as I would love be there when Hope can see the world around her and to know that people love her and she will never be mistreated again! She is still at the veterinary hospital and will be for some time. I visit her every day and walk her and she is such an inspiration to me! When I look at her I realize the problems I think I have are nothing compared to what she has been through. Again, thank you and I will keep you updated on how she is doing.
Bless you, Dogresq!!!!! I pray that Hope makes it through all this. She deserves a better life than what she had. It breaks my heart to know how much she has suffered. How wonderful of you to visit her and try to help her. Please keep us posted on her very difficult road to recovery. Our prayers will be with you every step of the way.
Welcome to the BB. We love to hear successful rescue stories. I pray that Hope will be one, too.
Sue
Thanks for the update on this poor creature. She must be a born fighter to have survived all this. Please keep up posted.
Hey Dogresq!! I'm glad you found the site!! Welcome aboard. You must tell everyone about your brood. They think we're crazy with our 10, you can join the bandwagon with your 8!! Thanks for the update on Hope. And also thank you for calling the other night so that I could post a little bit about her. We all hope a pray for a speedy recovery and I'm hoping for her that her heat period is brief...that has to be miserable. Definitely keep us posted.
Hi, DOGRESQ, & welcome. I am so honoured to know you & that brave dog, Hope. She sounds such a sweet, clever dog despite all that she has suffered.
Please keep us up-to-date. I wish I was a bit closer (like in the same country!) so that I could help in some practical way.
But my thoughts...& loads of admiration...are with you & Hope.
Welcome to Pet Talk, dogresq! Like Angels3 said, it is quite an honor to know someone so caring. Thank you for taking care of sweet Hope. Please keep us updated on her condition, and on the adoption that we all pray will come soon! Give her some kisses for me.
Thanks again for your support! I brought her home today, just for the day, to give her a change of scenery and extra love and attention. She did pretty well. She didn't know what stairs were and had a little trouble going up and down. And very sad, she doesn't know what toys are. I tried to get her to play and she had no idea what I was trying to do. Hopefully I can change that. She got along well with my other 8 dogs and when they tried to play with her she had no idea either what they were doing. I am going to try and bring her home in the evenings and on weekends to get her aclimated to a home environment. She followed me around the whole day-which I didn't mind at all! Thanks for your prayers-they help! I'll let you know how she is progressing!
that is bittersweet...i am so glad you could show this poor creature a loving home...even if just for a little while...it is sad that she obviously has not experienced this before..i hope she finds a forever home soon...but we applaud all your efforts...and a daily prayer for her to be weel, strong and loved....the deli dog :)
That's wonderful. With all your help, I'm sure she will progress. Now she will get a little of the love she deserves!
It is wonderful that you can show Hope what its like to be loved and to play with toys and someday she will be someones loved pet. Praying for her.
I am very Hope-ful about the chances for this precious dog. Thank you, Mugsy, for putting her rescuer in touch with us and to you DOGRESC for keeping us up to date. I don't deal with stories like this very well, but I do care so much.
Thanks for providing the address to send donations.
Logan
How great of you to take her to your house for the day! I was so sad when I heard that she didn't even know how to play... but I am sure with your help, she will learn soon :) All fingers and paws here are still crossed hoping that Hope gets her forever home soon!
Special thanks to Sudilar for posting Hope's story and to Mugsy for posting the information on where to send donations to help Hope. Hope thanks you also!!! :)
No, the thanks goes to you Dogresq, you are actually helping her!!! Hope her life continues to get better and better.
Hope was spayed on Friday and unfortunately there was a mass that looked very suspicious. She has a drain in place where they had to make the large incision. She was very uncomfortable Friday after the surgery and would not eat. As you know it is critical for diabetics to eat so they can have their Insulin. Saturday morning she ate a little canned food so at least she could have her Insulin. When I visited her Saturday afternoon she seemed to be doing better but was not yet herself. The pathology report will not be back until Friday and I pray that it is not cancer. Hope was starting to come around and put on weight. This would be a terrible set back. Regardless of what the pathology report says as soon as she has recovered from this surgery she will be coming home with me. She is a very strong girl and no matter what she comes up against she is a fighter. I will do whatever I can for her to give her the best life. :(
Bless your heart for opening your home to this precious girl. I will pray that the mass wasn't cancer...and look forward to hearing from you when you get the results. Poor Hope...what a darling girl, and so blessed to finally have found a place with people who will care for her.
our thoughts and prayers are with you and hope....the delidog :)
D0GRESQ...there's a lot of us here in Australia sending Hope & you our best wishes. In our family, when a pet is ill or in danger, we ask St Francis, the patron saint of animals, to take care of it. So we're asking St Francis to look after Hope.
I feel so frustrated that I'm too far away to contribute practical help...but I hope that you can feel our support in your heart.
Please let us know the results of the pathology test.
I will also add my prayers to St. Francis and St. Therese (and St. Jude). My heart goes out to Hope. Dogresq you are wonderful for what you are doing for her!! Thank you.
Thank you again for all of your support! This has been the most heartbreaking rescue that I have done. Hope was better today and was eating. She is always in good spirits. She continues to amaze the veterinarians on how she bounces back from whatever happens to her. We had a nice walk today and she enjoyed being outside. This is going to be long week. I will let you all know as soon as I hear anything.
My worst fears were confirmed today. The mass they found is cancer. I have cried so much today I can hardly see the computer. Exactly what can be done for her I don't know right now. I just got the report from the vet tech and did not talk to the veterinarian. He will be back on Tuesday. I'm praying that it is treatable. If so I will take her to Colorado State University where they have one of the best oncology departments in the USA. She is with me now and doesn't act like she is ill. I'm hoping that is a good sign! Regardless this angel will stay with me and will have the best of everything and will be loved for the rest of her life. I can't believe this dog has been dealt so many bad things. As I have said before she is an inspiration to us all on her will to live and all that she has shown and given to those who have been around her. She is truly one of God's great gifts and I am blessed to have her. I will let all of you know what the vet says on Tuesday.
I am praying with all my heart that this earthly angel will be with us for a long time. I am crying along with you dogresq. I was so, so saddened to hear the diagnosis. But I am holding onto faith and the hope that this courageous, beautiful soul will prevail to know the beauties and joys of this life. Thank you dogresq for your amazing, incredible dedication, strength and love. And so Sue and Mugsy, thank you both SO MUCH.
Hope, we love you precious girl. FIGHT!!!!!!

Our little gang wishes Hope the very best! We'll think good thoughts for her on Tuesday when the vet tells you more. We pray the surgery got it all.
DOGRESQ..
I have been reading the story of this beautiful soul called HOPE ,from the start,
but have never posted my thoughts..
This latest news of the path report is very
sad news indeed!!
I read your post early this morning, but started to cry & couldn't respond till now.
I once witnessed an animal being dumped to
fend for himself, but was a child (6yrs)
at the time, and could do nothing to stop it.
The puppy was a beagle pup, about 3 mos at the
time; The puppy was mine ; and the one who
ordered the dumping was my Father!!
I begged to go along on the ride to the
countryside ,hopeing in my childlike brain,
that my Father would relent since he knew
how much I loved that pup!!Even tried to
sneak him back into the car after I told him "Yes he's gone now"!!Didn't work and
again was told to "Get rid of that dog!"
I put him outside into a patch of grass, and got back in the car for the ride home...
I rode home in the backseat crying all the
way.I've never forgotten the incident and never forgiven my Father for it...
No tears for me Please!! Just hope that this
Dear Dear Girl had a taste of love before
she was dumped..Thank You Dogresq for taking
in this beautiful creature and giving her
every chance at a real life with a loving
companion to live out her years with...
Will say special prayers for HOPE and for
her friend DOGRESQ!!!! Thank You.
No tears for you, Lizbud? That's an impossible request. What a heart breaking event for the little girl who was you. We read a lot of sad stories on this board and this topic has one of the saddest, but when I read your post I had to grieve again. I know we can't travel back in time to try to console you but please accept our understanding of the enormity of what you went through that day and the days that followed.
God bless you DOGRESQ and most of all bless poor Hope. All we can do is pray for a miracle that this precious dog will be able to enjoy the love and kindness available for her during her remaining time here on earth.
