What's your Internet speed?
To tell you the truth, I have no idea. :o
All I know is that I have dial-up, and that my computer is really slow because we only have windows 95 which I have been pestering my mom to upgrade for ages...
that means you have 56k modem, or dial up. ;)
We have a 56k Modem
I have Cable hook up :D
I'm on a cable modem, too, which is usually quite fast!! Thank goodness!!
Cable here too.. really fast!
Ours is through cable also:D but we may have to change it back to the phone line (dial up) to lower the cost of things.
Cable :D
cool .. majority so far is high speed .. thankfully high speed is becoming more mainstream now :)
DSL here..at my moms, she has cable. DSL works great for us as we have 4 comps hooked up to one connect and our cable provider doesn't allow it like the DSL place does -hugs dsl-
Cable... We only have two computer hooked up now but when my brother lived with us we had 6 computers hooked up.. 4 in his room alone.
Geez  Didn't slow the connection down? Ours is slower then it prob would be :(..but we (bro, dad and I) all have 2 comps just only 4 hooked up..my desktop is evil anywho -glares- I wanna take one of mine to my moms cause hers really sucks :x its like welfare brand LOL jk..well its no name anyway..prob local build which makes it even worse..never let other ppl get stuff for you..
I have a cable modem too - Roadrunner
I'm cheap so it's a 56k for me. But I'm thinking that when I move I might get cable.

That's why I still have 56k dial-up.
When the prices go down enough, than I will change over
to the modern world of speed. :)
right now, to use high speed internet, we have to deal with a 80 dollar phone bill every month ... I'm a big geek tho, so I need highspeed lol
Generally DSL. But once a month, my doggies eat up my phone lines and it is NADA. :p
cable :D
Cable over here too!:)
cable for me too :p
cable... it doesn't cost me a penny... its included in my rent, along with digital cable, phone, food, ect
Mine is a dial up.
whoa...thats a pretty sweet deal you have there.. :eek:Quote:

the catch is, is that i live with a skiteso (sp), by-polar nut bag!!!
my rent use to be 225.00 can/month & now its 500.00 can/month... I don't make 500.00/month... i can't feed myself anymore...
but it was a sweet deal :)

Australian broadband technology is a contradiction in terms. We are currently ranked behind Estonia and Malaysia in relation to broadband penetration into the mass market. We have Senator Alston, a.k.a. Senator Luddite to thank for that. He is our Communications and I.T. minister. He didn't have his own e-mail address for years and just spent AU$ 4 million his boring and ugly department website.
We are on crappy dialup! We cannot get ADSL as we are too far from the exchange and lose too much data to trans loss (attenuation, cross-talk, etc) because the morons who installed the main cable in our area decided to take it in a wild tour rather than just following the direct pattern of the roads.
The ONLY option is cable. We don't even get the choice of companies hence it is really expensive. And we'd have hideous download limits - pay $90 a month and what do you get? A lousy 3 gig cap, that's what! They try to soften it by saying that it equates to 600 mp3 files, but the scumbags also meter you for uploads and clearly have NO idea how much data transfer simple browsing can accrue!
What's even funnier is they count 1 GB as 1,000 MB not 1,024 MB. Likewise, they consider 1 MB to be 1,000 KB not 1,024 KB and so on down the chain to the byte units. The 3 gig is an illusion worthy of Copperfield. Which moron decided that one? Obviously the same guy who designed my laptop HDD a month after he bought his I.T. degree on eBay!
To make matters worse, we are on 56k dialup, but the line quality is so poor that we achieve 33k at best. The general quality of the Australian PSTN copper network is so shocking, that whenever it rains, we have twice the number of faults coming in at work (I work for a telco). Our line, in particular, is so noisy when it rains that we get disconnected constantly.
It's a joke.

IBK- I suspect that, instead of a brain in your head, you have an entire computer in there!! WOW you know lots and lots about this stuff. And, funny that you know the term "luddite"...as in Sen. Luddite. I use that all the time, and people never know what I mean.
But, this is where I get confused. I understand dial up. I understand cable....but, are there different types of high speed? Some of you have called things different names.. and I am just wondering. I have high speed, but, I thought it was called DSL...so, will you take it down about six levels and tell me the difference? Thanks.
Because of the new thread regarding replying to threads with pics/no pics, I thought about starting a poll about your internet speed. Search showed me this recent thread. Currently it's running 2 to 1 high speed versus dial up. Anyone need to add a vote?:)
I actually have no clue. :o
I have Window's XP, so im really not sure.
Is your telephone connected to the back of your computer?
Does your telephone ring while you are on the internet?
Do threads with lot of pictures load slowly or quickly?:)
Cable Road Runner :D
Cable! :D
Can't live without cable. :D
Silly Mik, XP is your operating system that doesn't have anything to do with your net connection ;) If your net is hooked up by a cable wire then you have cable, if it's a cord (no dial up) then it's DSL, and if it's dial up...then it's dial up? lol XD :)Quote:

I might have said this before, but my mom has cable and dad DSL (ultra high speed, though)
I have 56k dial up through a web tv hook up. Has anyboedy heard of web tv? I seem to be the only person using one!
Cable, 3 days after it was available on our street !!
Katz
I have cable as well. Gotta love cable.
There is 56k modem, which is dial up, then cable which normaly comes in different speeds. I believe that we are on 768 right now. Then there is DSL which I don't know much about since I have never used it. But I do believe that, that also comes in different speeds as well.Quote:
