Oh, that's not good. Do you have someone who can jump start your Jeep? I'd be happy to -- even have jumper cables, but I"m kinda far away.
Poor Jeep! Got a warming blanket you can drape over the hood?
Aww cripes! You don't have a block heater for it? :-( that totally stinks...
I have my charger on the battery and Im waiting for the booster to charge.
Karen, if I had an electric blanket I would put it out there.
I really do need to get a bottle and oil pan heaters on that thing.
Yeah, we don't often get temperatures THAT bad here, but I know of instances where a tarp and electric blanket have come quite in handy. That and a LONG extension cord ...
OMG.. that's when you just say the heck with it and stay inside!!!
we've been checking the temps in alaska too. my daughter will be leaving for elmendorf AFB on jan 6th for 36 months. good thing a michigan winter is a pretty good primer for that! LOL!
well it's 36 degrees right now, and like your jeep i don't want to start either...and yet that J-O-B requires me too. *sigh* see you after 9pm
i just did the math....74 dergees difference...wowsa
I'm all for staying inside!!! It's -24oC here this morning. But the wind chill makes it feel like -38oC. Brrrrrrrrr!!!!!!
I'm taking Murphy to the vet this morning to have her thyroid tested and will pick up stuff while out. I'll be back in my jammies before "All My Children" comes on. It's FREEZING here!!
Aki,
I found the Michigan winters aren't any different than the ones in CT. At least when it's cold and snowy here I can go visit my daughter or best friend. Couldn't do that in MI. Stay warm!!;)
I don't do THAT kind of cold! I would be so miserable I would be in tears!!!
Blue,
I grew up in the prairies and know what cold is but -38 is just not civilized? Hope you have a good warm parka :) and please don't expose those ears :p that could hurt big time !!! I lived in a full length sheepskin coat (complete with hood) and muskrat mittens during the winter - looked silly but who cares:p
Good luck with the Jeep  Them square tires can be a little disgruntling at times ;)

ahhh they're not too bad. prolly because i have lived here all my life. :D
-32 out right now and the dang Jeep still wont start. I walked 1.5 miles to the store for some provisions and ISO Heet for the gas tank. I did take a cab home. Im kinda suprised my heating oil hasnt gelled up.
I shouldnt have made any mention of my heating oil. I ran out of oil overnight and woke up to -34 outside and less then 50 inside with no chance of a delivery till monday.
30 gallons of diesel in the tank should get me to Monday and then some. Im gonna set up a monthly delivery for the rest of the winter.
Oooh, cursed yourself, didn't yah? have you informed Bluedawg and Verde that, as Alaskan doggies, they're supposed to keep their human warm? ;)
If they could have kept the pipes from freezing I would have waited till monday instead of running my furnace on diesel.
Stay safe I can't even imagine dealing with that cold I am such a wimp. Do you have a wood burning stove?
A wood burning stove is my first priority come summer time and will become my primary heat souce.
Don't know what supplies you have access to - but there are little solar wings/panels that are designed to hook up to your battery and trickle into it. Don't know if that would help.
The panels work even if there's no direct sunshine.
Mind you - you're in the land of the midnight sun right now...
Its not a battery issue, it turns over and is firing but not catching. Im hopping my neighbor will be home tommorow so I can borrow a big space heater.
wasilla dosen't seem that far from anchorage (by map anyway) but seems to be much colder!
alaska is an amazing place it seems
Weather wise, comparing Wasilla to Anchorage is like comparing Kenosha to Madison.
Anchorage has had some record low temps in the last week.
Temps can vary by 10 or more degrees in less then a mile anywhere.
ah, i get cha. hard to get the scope of how large the state really is since it's not attached to the contiguous states. hopefully the weather will be cooperating when my daughter flys over there on tuesday :D
she said that she heard that you have dry cold which i translates as bad snowman snow :D
Are you doing okay blue? How are you keeping warm? Do you have an electric blanket?
It does get really dry here, more so in the Valley then Anchorage or the bases. The cold is supposed to break early in the week so it should be above zero when your daughter gets to Anchorage.
I have diesel running in the furnace so the house is staying warm. Having the dogs sleep on the bed helps too. Im getting one of the large space heaters from the shop and tarping off the Jeep to warm that up to get it to start today.
I spent a good portion of the day trying to get a large space heater from work out here to warm the Jeep enough to fire. That didnt happen. I did tent off the engine compartment and put a very small space heater under there for most of the afternoon.
About 4pm it finaly started, I had to keep on the gas until it got to operating temperature so it would stay running. Its -24 out there, the house is warm and the Jeep is defrosting. As long as it fires in the morning life is good.
We were spoiled today. It was only -15 so everyone was happy.
Forget that! I had to work last night and it was 28 degrees out...positively tropical when compared to what you have to deal with! I was really uncomfortable, even dressed warmly. I can't imagine the amount of layers you have to wear!
I can't even wrap my brain around that!
At least its warming up out there.

From the Fairbanks Fred Meyer earlyer today. Actualy it was from the 3rd.[/EDIT]
Yikes! That's beyond cold! Stay warm, okay?
We would have welcomed that a few times at Ft Drum.
-38 is too warm to stop training.
-50 we could call it off.
BLUE
how are you doing?
