I'm curious if anyone uses a homeopathic vet, and follows a homeopathic diet for their cat.
I saw a homeopathic vet yesterday, and really like her, and the diet sounds promising- but almost too promising. I'm worried about making changes, and also worried that not making changes will doom her to a short life. TC is in end stage renal failure - the regular vets have said there is nothing left they can do - try homeopathy, it can't hurt.
Any input?
I have used a homeopathic vet to treat a cat with asthma. He was controlled nicely for over 12 yrs on various remedies. Please post more on the diet, that is something I had not heard about!!!
Yes, I took my Cleo to a homoeopathic vet after her diagnosis of mild hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure and early-mid renal failure . She has regular medication for the hyperthyroidism and HBP.
The homoeopathic vet gave her her constititutional remedy ( which will be different for every cat) and nux vomica to support her system for the conditions we are dealing with and the medication by-products. She only had to take it for about 3 weeks. The nux vomica can be used as needed (vomiting, other signs of upset etc)
Regarding diet, I was given some recipes for all natural diets. I also did some research on the internet for supplements to add in and at what levels - taurine, vitamin E, potassium etc, and I did some ringing round health food shops and ran here and there to collect them at considerable expense. I used organic brown rice and free-range, corn fed, antibiotic-free chicken (nothing too good, and no expense spared, for my baby). After cooking and flaking the chicken, I cooked down the chicken bones to make a nice broth to flavour it all. Being vegetarian, the smell made me want to gag, but, you know, nothing's too much for my baby...I'm sure you know what's coming next...
Yep, she wouldn't touch it.
She does eat Hills canned k/d and the Walthams dry kidney kibble though. When she feels like it. sometimes she just walks straight in and eats Colette's.
What can you do?
I'm just happy to see her eating at all, sometimes she has "off food"days especially now while it is so hot here (40 degrees C!!!) Neither of them eats a lot in this heat - but then I don't feel like food either. As I write this I am sitting here with my feet in a bowl of cold water and both fans on full blast and it's 1.00am! Happy New Year by the way.
I have felix on perscription food from the vet,its called C/D It is to help maintain a healthy body weight and help prevent urinary tract problems since he was neutered.I have never heard of that diet you mentioned though.
Yes the Hills Prescription diets come in many varieties don't they- all something/d - k/d is kidney diet, she used to have w/d , weight diet not so much for weight control but vet said the fibre content would help her with her loose stools, which it did. There are others too but I don't know them all.
P.S. I accidentally hit your bio button and saw your dog Beer was at the RB so I had a look at him on the Dogster page and gave him a bone. :p Wasn't he a sweetie? All that long black hair, cuddly! :)
