My new adoption, Eli, is almost SCARED of Hooch, because Hooch;( he isn't neautered, and Eli isn't spayed) well; he keeps humping her. I am getting Eli spayed, if she doesn't get pregnant first!

Can you blame her? Get them both done ASAP!
No, I can't blame her at all, but I was told to keep Hooch un-neautered to breed him. But I will get Eli spayed later today, or tommorow.
Hope it goes well
May I ask, what are your reasons for breeding Hooch?
Can't you keep them in seperate rooms or something?
Wow, your vet can get you in super super fast.
Why are you going to breed Hooch?
Because Hooch is an awesome standard for the Dogue De Bordeaux and they are not a very popular breed. I got Eli spayed earlier today:) So we don't have to worry about it anymore. And while I was there, I decided to get Baby neautered. So they are both fixed now, and now I don't have to worry about Mixed breed pups.
Well done - how is Eli doing after surgery?
how do you know hooch is an awesome example of a DDB?
how many shows has won? what titles does he have?
what health tests has he had done?
to be an awesome example of his breed he would have to have won shows and at least be a Champion, preferably a Grand Champion, he'd also have to have all the health tests done like OFA hips and elbows, cerf, thyroid, etc. to make sure he is 100% healthy and isnt passing on any genetic health problems
DDB arent exactly a rare dog anymore, heck a lady down the street in my small podunk town even had one, before she got rid of it  BYB's AND Puppymill's already have ahold of these dogs and they are already in rescues and shelters.

i know that each time one of my dogs got fixed, i called and they had me in the next day
AllAmericanPup, that was an awesome post! :) I REALLY hope the OP got the idea. Just because a dog is rare, does not mean that it should be bred without being exhibited in shows and activities, health/temperament tested, and evaluated by a professional. Actually, because a breed is rare that makes it MORE important to get your breeding dogs tested and titled, because not doing so will have a majorly BAD effect on the entire breed, having a small gene pool. Please get Hooch evaluated by a vet, Dogue's could easily be dysplasic and have other health problems do to their size and flat faces. Also, consider at least getting him evaluated by a professional Dogue breeder/exhibitor and/or by a show judge BEFORE even thinking of breeding him. You should breed him only to impove his breed, and although he might be a handsome dog he could also be poor health/show quality.
Also, there is a Dogue in my county shelter right now and I've seen several there at a time... along with Dogue mixes. They're steadily becoming popular to cross-breed with fighting dogs :( there was also several ads in my newspaper, almost definitely placed by crappy BYB's, advertising Dogues.
they rescued those dogs, the shelter might have had them already sceduled,
thanks allamericanpup for those great post!!!
Exactly. That dosen't make sense, I don't think I've ever ever seen a shelter that dosen't spay the dog before you bring it home. Especially, with filling out an adoption application, they would know you have an unneutered male at home....Quote:
