Getting fur to grow back

My sister adopted a golden retriever about a month ago from a rescue. I guess she was so matted she had to be shaved but I've seen really matted dogs (work at a grooming salon) and I think they shaved her shorter than necessary. It looks like they shaved her with a surgical length blade which is to the skin. Anyway, the fur is not growing back well. Some places the fur is about an inch and other places it's just like peach fuzz...it's growing back all patchy looking. She's 7 years old and has been to the vet who said it's possible she has thyroid problems but they haven't tested for it yet. I'm just wondering if there's any sort of suppliment to give her or other suggestions for getting her fur to grow back better?

Fish oil and Vitamin-E (dry succinate salt form). But the Vet probably is correct in a possible thyroid condition.

I'd like to know as well.

Nala now has 4 bald spots on her face which I doubt will EVER grow back. :mad: :( :(

She also has a funny looking patch on her back. I hope it'll grow back normally.

Nina has hair like that all over. Some spots ''never'' need to be cut, others grow normally. We've had all the tests done and everything comes back normal. No thryoid trouble. We had the blood work sent to one of the top thryoid specialist in the US. She had the symptoms , a little bit to heavy, sort of bug eyes, bad hair growth and skin that turned gray. It's been about 1.5 yeras since some of her hair has grown. I am scared if she ever has to have a surgery and they do shave it all the way down to skin, that it will never grow back.

I bet it's a thyroid problem. They are so common in goldens. :(

However, all of the goldens we shave at work grow back patchy too. They will have random wiry hairs and patches that feel like peach fuzz. We shave them pretty short, depending on what the owner wants, sometimes with a 30.

A 30? Wow we never go that short normally we shave goldens with a 7 only a 10 if they are really matted no shorter than that. It looks to me that Skylee was shaved with a 30 or 40. I'll tell my sister to get the thyroid checked for sure.

I have no advice, just good luck, and I hope that everything is all right!
