I have a HORRIBLE confession to make..

I always thought of myself as a true animal lover, but the older I've gotten the more I realize that I don't necessarily like other people's animals. WHICH is one of the reasons I decided I could not be a vet.

I could care less if I walk out the door with my cats' fur all over me. I'll share my food with my cats--I could be eating some Doritos and will let Callie get a few licks of the cheese and I'll still eat the chip. :eek: :p It doesn't gross me out in the least.

I just spent the holiday weekend at my brother's house and they have 3 dogs and 3 cats in the house. The house is HUGE but it just seems that animals are everywhere. There is always fur in the food, ALWAYS. Their sheltie will eat off your plate if left unattended (I know, I know I should know better) but I refuse to eat anything once he has touched it. Their cat, the mom of Shadow and Whisper, pees constantly on the rug when she is angry about something (they have tried medications, making sure it isn't something health wise), she scratches at you as you walk by, she growls, bites, hisses... The dogs bark constantly...and I know it all has to do with training, but I just don't like their animals.

Am I a bad person? I just feel as if I should love all of God's creatures, but I just can't. I can't stand other people's dogs jumping on me, barking, whatever...Am I doomed to a life of being one of those people who love their children, but hate everyone else's? :rolleyes: :eek:

I don't think you're horrible. All pets should be trained in proper behavior whether other people are there or not. These pets do need training, but even though it's not their fault they never got it, it's still hard to like them when thet act like that. And pet hair in the food? blecccchhhh.....

i don't think you're wrong for feeling that way. Having 6 cats and 4 dogs myself, I would be totally embarrased if my pets behaved that way. We have strict pet rules and they all seem to follow them fairly well.

I see it like this, Nothing can make you a bad momma so long as you love your own. We can still love all God's creatures because they are just that but it's kind of like kids it depends upon who raises them. I had a dog for the first year of her life and my mom had the sister. When I got married we moved into an apartment and Chyna was too big to go with me so she moved to Grandma's house. I love my dog still but goodness she has bad manners now. But my mom lives alone and treats both Chyna and her sister as if they layed golden eggs. It drives me crazy, but Mom does not seem to mind. It does not make you a bad person, I think it show's that you really care.

I understand how you feel...I love animals but my brother-in-law and his wife have 2 siberian huskies & have one of those electric fences, so the dogs are outside most of the time. Anytime you go over there both dogs jump all over you and they always have muddy paws. I know that huskies usually have a lot of energy but they get on my nerves sometimes. They usually give the dogs table scraps during meal time, so anytime you try to eat in that house you have 2 dogs in your face. I can't stand that; Roscoe is not allowed anywhere NEAR the table when we eat!

QUITE FRANKLY,THAT MANY PEOPLE,WOULD REALLY CARE,FOR LOUD,UNTRAINED PETS.THE FOUND CATS,WILL NEVER EAT,OUT OF A GUESTS PLATE,AND ARE VERY QUIET,WHEN I HAVE PEOPLE OVER.
AND DOGS,NEED TO HAVE TRAINING,AS IT IS ESAY,FOR A BIG DOG,TO KNOCK SOMEONE OVER,ACCIDENTALLY,AND HURT THEM.

I WOULDNT CARE,TO VISIT THERE,EITHER.

I love dogs, really I do, but not one that barks everytime it sees another dog, or a cat, or a kid on a skateboard, or an ant crossing it's path, like the dog that lives across the street from me. :mad: Okay, I might have exaggerated with the ant, but you get the point. It is so frustrating to hear this dog bark, bark, bark EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!!! Mind you, the woman tries to grab her as fast as she can to bring her into the house, but the damage is already done, my ears are ringing from that high piercing bark.

Or when I use to go to my M-I-L's for dinner and her dog would just sit there by the table and just when I was about to put the fork of food into my mouth, "WOOOOOFFFF!!!!!!"
I would jump and the food on my fork would fly off every which way. Get the picture.

So Callies Mom, welcome to the club, you are far from being a bad person.

You aren't a bad meowme so long as your furkids have manners ;)

My cats go "poof" when they know someone who isnt partial to cats is around. (They've even learned the footsteps of the landlord and hide to where I can't find them if he stops by lol) They have a sixth sense on how to behave around any type of guest. Trust me though, if you have the "I love cats" aura about you they won't leave you alone! They would never steal off of a plate though.

I'm a firm believer in teaching my pets to be polite. I think its just part of responsible pet care.

Well my cats are far from trained. HA! Trained?!?! Callie won't do anything to guests because usually when people come over, they hide so I put them in the bedroom. BUT Callie will stand an inch from my face while I eat and beg for food...it doesn't bother me in the least but annoys hubby to no end. ;)

People did complain though, mainly J's grandma and aunt, that cat hair was all over their black pants. LOL Whisper LOVES new people and acts like we abuse him and he has never been pet before...so of course, he rubs himself on them. I felt really bad as I know they don't like cats but got a bit offended. :eek: How could anyone not want cat fur all over their black pants? It has "character." : )
