Mooch I'm woried.

Last night I was in the other room when Paul called me into the kitchen. There was Mooch sitting on the rug, with huge chunks of her hair all around her. She just losing it all the time now from her belly area and around her ears.

I'm making an appointment with the vet, to take her in. I hate every time I take her to the vet, I just know that, that one day will come where he says, it's time. Part of me doesn't know why I'm taking her, nothing else has changed with her, she eats well, body functions are good, she has no rash, fleas etc. Still blind, but still wags her tail, from happness and get along fine. Doesn't even bump into things as much as she use too. :)

I'm thinking the hair falling out, is just a part of old age. Fingers crossed that the vets just says I'm worried for nothing, she fine, just getting older.

We want to make it to age 20!!! :)

My mom's RB yorkie was like that. He lost a lot of hair, mostly on his back. The vet said it was just old age. He was 151/2 years old when they had to have him PTS. He was missing hair for a couple years before that though. He was deaf and was on medication of arthritis. He had a battle with kidney stones when he was 12 or 13 and was on a prescription diet. The stone came back and after doing some blood work the outlook didn't look too good. The vet didn't think he'd make it through the surgery to remove the stones. So my mom felt rather than making him go through that it be better to have him PTS.

Anyway the point of my story was that my mom's dog lived years after loosing some of his hair. He was later PTS, which had nothing to do with the hair loss. So hopefully Mooch will make it to 20.

Libby, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it's nothing. I, too, know the fear of losing your most special furry one. I hope the vet gives you some reassuring news.

Libby, I know how much you love that old lady of yours and hope everything is as "okay" as it has been with her. For her to live to 19 is amazing.. you must be doing something right. :)

Let us know what the vet says and just incase we'll be thinking of you both.

That's what the vet said when I called to make the appointment. Most likely it's just old age. He didn't seem to worried so we go in Thurs. to see him. So maybe I'm stressed for nothing. It's just the fur is coming out so often now and in such big chunks. It almost like someone shaved it off, that the size of the patches.

It's just so hard when you have a dog this old, every little thing, scares the heck out of you. Then when she looks so bad just from age and now hair missing. Watching all the changes, is ruff. She has gone from a long haired little ball of fat, to a semi-hairless, anorexia looking rat like dog. :eek:

19 years just last month, she has given me, she is and has been an amazing girl. Me doing something right??? I don't know. If you ask my Vet, he might say different, sense I didn't do anything he advise, diet wise, etc. :D I'm hard headed. I did what I felt was right..........and if that means table scraps, dog food she liked, not what was said to be better...she got them. LOL

Oh, bless you - My cat is 17 and just this past few months has been pulling alot of his fur out, or it's falling out, probably a little of each. It's hard to watch them getting older....hope your baby is ok.

My personal opinion, and some will disagree, is that once they get that old why not give them what they want. If a 19 year old dog eats his (or in your case- her) premium kibble than that's great, but if he won't then it's better he eat something even if it's table food and kibbles n' bits than him not eating at all.

All Right, someone that agrees with me!!!!!!!!!:D You have no idea what heck some have given me, for doing that. But Hey, when I get old, let me get old happy, eating what I want and enjoying every minute of life I can. If that means eating a whole Cheese cake, I'm going too.

So why not Mooch, she's earned that right, so if she likes Pedigree/Mighty dog in the bag, wet food...........she's getting it, with a little of my food too. That's how she got her name.......Mooching food. :D
