Someone is spraying in my house....

I opened the laundry door this morning to the reek of you guessed it Cat Pee, It can only be one of my kitties, I suspect Ash maybe has sprayed in there, because this Tom from the flats around the corner keeps coming on our property and spraying the doorstep and the bushes, everywhere he can find, I assume Ash is reclaiming his territory by putting his smell there, of course it could be my Lexie , but I figure it more likely to be the male cat, am I wrong?

At first I hoped it was coming from the doorstep, and the smell was coming through the open window, but it is pretty strong.
None of the kitties are ill, and Lexie uses a litter box, Ash does not, he is indoor/outdoor and has never used a litter box to my knowledge.

Any suggestions as to how I can stop him doing this, we have a kinda fake grass covering our lino in there, and now I will have to lift it and clean it outside, it will take forever to dry, and we will just have to have the old lino for a while.

It is becoming a big problem this woman who has all these cats, she keeps them outdoors permanently, has six of them now, and none are spayed and neutered, and of course they come here and fight with my kitties, if only people were more responsible.,ok that is my moan over for today, thanks for putting up with me lol.:)

No suggesions to stop spraying. I don't think its a medical problem because of all you described. Do you let your cats outside? If not I'd put around a few plants you can by at plant stores often labeled as Cat-be-gone, I forgot the regular name but you could ask a worker at a plant store. I'd also head to the pet store and look for cat repellants that might work outside. Clean the area where the cats sprayed real good and maybe block off that area in your house for a while.
If it were me in this situation I would humanely trap the cats and bring them to a shelter. It should be legal to do in your area also. Have you confronted her about her cats spraying your yard and house?

Thank you for your advice, however my cats use the same door to go in and out all the time, it would be a bit difficult to put a plant there that no cat likes, infact Lexie has the use of the laundry window and likes to come and go as she pleases during the day.

As for the neighbour, I cannot legally go on her property and trap her cats, it is completely open and she would see me, it is also against the law to trespass on her property, and I won't do anything illegal, I have thought of ringing the shelters about them, but only the SPCA will take them if she surrenders them, she may with the kittens which are young adult cats now, but she would not part with Duchess,Charles and Victoria, that I am sure of, I am hesitant to do it because i know they would be put to sleep as they are semi-feral, the no kills won't even consider taking them unless she spays and neuters and she won't do that, unfortunately there is no law to make her do so, I feel my hands are tied, and I am really worried come kitten season again, I have this feeling she is probably a person who moves a lot, lets face it, if the two females or the kittens have kittens we will have an explosion of cats, she won't be able to care for them and will probably just move and leave them behind, would not suprise me, I mean she must have already done that, they obviously have had kittens before, where are they now.

She is very hard to approach, I have already done that, leaving her information on spaying and neutering the cats, and have given her cat food etc, she just does not respond in any way, she calls herself an animal lover, right, sure, she is, in a sick kinda way, I mean the cats are feed, but I doubt they get alot of food, although they look reasonably healthy considering, but she would never deflea them, or worm them, they are constantly in the rubbish bins looking for food, even well fed cats will do that if they have been a stray, and the worst is they spend all year outside with very little shelter, that in itself I should beable to report her for, but like I said I know I would be damning them to death, at least they have some sort of life at the moment, even though it is not how you or I would like it to be.

I am just getting really sick of Charles coming over here and fighting with Ash, he had some rather bad wounds recently, luckily they have healed with a bit of help from me attending to them, but he is too old for all this stuff.

I meant to trap them in your yard. I don't know what else you can do. This lady sounds like some starting collector. I anything I'm sure you could compain about a health hazard and take it to the city but they would probably say something about your own cats running around outside. hmm you are in a tough spot...

Yes exactly, I cannot say that my cats never wander on her property, you have to remember NZ really only has indoor/outdoor cats, it is the norm here.

You have a point I could indeed trap her cats on my property, although it really seems to be the male that is the problem, the other's I don't see much here, but i don't want to be the one responsible for him being put to sleep, he is a beautiful looking kitty, and i just cannot bring myself to do it, I guess I just have to put up with the situation, and do the best I can.. in her own sad way she does love her three cats, she has never touched the kittens, which is sad because by doing that she made them un-adoptable.

I guess it is the pending situation that worries me sick.

If they keep breeding I will have to do something, I know some of the other neighbours are not too happy about all her cats, she lives in a small 2 bedroomed flat or apartment, in a block of three, ground floor, they only have a back door step and there is a small verandah out the front, it angers me that she won't even use this to make a warm shelter for her kitties, there is not enough room for the whole six of them on the small backstep.
