My betta, Fizz, keeps making these things in the water that look like nests. I think they're called Bubble Nests. Can someone please tell me what bubble nests are and why bettas make them?

Male bettas make nests to keep the eggs in. They take care of the eggs (providing there's a female in there...which I think have to be removed after mating) by blowing eggs that fall down back up into the bubble nest. ;) Females do nothing but lay the eggs, and then get out of there lol!;)
congrats! Fizz is a very happy fish!:D
While yes males do make them, occasionally some females will also. Also, making bubble nests is associated with the betta's current state of mind, but it doesn't necessarily mean he is unhappy if he isn't making them or that he is happy if he's making them. Either way if he's noticably healthy and is making his nests, then I would totally say he seems happy. Since you already know that bettas make these nests for breeding, it doesn't mean that when they start making them they must be bred. Anyway, best of luk with the more continued happiness.
Ok thanks everyone. I'm glad my Fizz is happy!
Here, we have Bubble Mountains! Constantly.. their bubble mountains stick atleast an inch and a half out of the water!
