I know you can help...

Please help... I know there is someone out there who will hopefully know what i'm talking about. Someone sent me a poem along time ago before my PC crashed and i lost all my files.
It was about having to make the decision to have a pet put to sleep, and the pet saying if it should be then thats OK.
I know it sounds morbid but it's not it's abit like Rainbow Bridge were it gives you some comfort.
Anyway hope someone can help...

Hi Jackie. I think this is the one you speak of. Someone gave it to me when I lost my Lab of a Lifetime, Jingles. It still makes me cry to read it. There is also "A Dog's Prayer." I will c&p it in a bit.

"If It Should Be"

If it should be that I grow weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand,
Don't let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years,
What is to come can hold no fears,
You'd not want me to suffer so,
The time has come, please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me until the end,
I know in time that you will see,
The kindness that you did for me,
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve, it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do,

Treat me kindly

My beloved master,

Keep my pan filled with fresh water,
for although I should not reproach you were it dry,
I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.

Feed me clean food, that I may stay well,
to romp and play and do your bidding,
to walk by your side, and stand ready,
willing and able to protect you with my life
should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master,
should the great Master see fit to deprive me
of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you.
Rather hold me gently in your arms as
skilled hands grant me the merciful bond of eternal rest.
And I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew,
my fate was ever safest in your hands

Hi Everyone,

Thanx for all your replys, and Sandra thanx so much for finding me the poem your an angel... :) It's for my friend who has just lost both her cats within 6 weeks of each other... :( she is devastated they were her world... Unforunatly she doesen't have access to the internet, only when she comes to see me and the first thing she says is lets go and have a look at pet talk... Gini if you don't mind you can mail me the other poem to... I will go and check out the web address that you have left for me to and see what else i can find... :D

Sandra, the first poem is the one that got me through with the passing of Kona, You have it as "If it should be" I have it as
"The Last Battle" either name it is very comforting.
