My Shadow

I wake up with a weight on my feet
My shadow is with me

I get up and head to the shower
My shadow follows me

I’m done in the shower
Head to the kitchen
My shadow follows me
And expects a treat

I head to the basement
To clean the litter
My shadow follows me

I head to the bedroom
To get dressed
My shadow follows me

Back to the bathroom
To put on my face
My shadow follows me

As I walk out the door
I kiss my shadow goodbye
He heads upstairs to nap
Until I get home again

I’m home now
My shadow is waiting for me

I hit the couch for the evening
My shadow climbs up
We snuggle happily
Me and my shadow

It’s Saturday now
I putz around doing chores
My shadow follows me

Eventually
My shadow tires
And heads to the sun
Where he casts his own shadow
And lazes serenely

My shadow is gone
I walk around alone
The sun falls on empty carpet
I miss you shadow

Debbie, I'm about to leave for work with tears streaming down my face. I can only imagine the pain that remains in your heart. God only knows what I'll go through when it's time for Speckles.

Phred, you're right, but it's just not the same when he's not "physically" there.

Kim, I thought of you too while I was writing this because I know you're going through the same thing.

This weekend we are headed to Wisconsin. Tubby will be scattered in the woods behind my mom's house. He always loved it up there and always liked being outside. And then he can also watch over Goofy to keep him safe. I'm hoping to find a nice sunny spot in the woods with maybe some spring flowers blooming.....

Before releasing him into the wind, kiss the box for me and tell him Goodby.
