neuter recovery question-HELP?

Prince got neutered today. He's home now and he's fine. I have him confined to his cage, and he's yipping and howling & crying to get out. They didn't really say how long to keep him "confined", except that in a couple days he'd be jumping all around again. They did not use staples or stitches - they GLUED him after surgery!:eek: I have a couple questions:

1. do you think it would hurt him to let him out tonight to sleep with Star and Sherman like usual?- I'm sure he'd snuggle up and be warmer & feel better. I just put down new straw, too.
2. And should I confine him again tomorrow?

3. does anyone know how this glue thing works? does the glue stay forever or does he just grow back together?

I'm sorry I am no help...Spot was neutered when we got him, and he is the only boy I've ever had.

My Buddy was altered the day before he came to me and there was no confining him, he's a Border Collie. He acted as if nothing was wrong and he fully recovered with no problems. Just make sure that he doesn't lick the wound too much, otherwise I think it's safe to let him out.

My girl was spayed yrs ago and thye used glue.... she was just fine.... you can always try having him on a leash and keep him near you so he isnt running about? This way he is out but not confined yet,,,,, kept calm... you can try letting him sleep withhis mates,,, just watch them if they try to play......

1. It probably won't hurt a bit to let him out to sleep with Star and Sherman. Does out mean out of his crate? Or outside though? How cold is it? It'd probably be best to have him inside, but if he's stressing out about it, then I'd let him be with Star and Sherman.

2. Probably depends on how tonight goes. Its best that he lays low. I'm not sure of his usual activity. Does he generally just hang out or does he wrestle with the other dogs a lot? If he's REALLY active, I'd confine him again. If he just lays around anyway, I wouldn't confine him.

3. He'll just grow back together with the glue. It is about the same healing time as sutures but you don't need to take anything out. I LOVE the glue much better. Most of my fosters are glued :)

I had Gracie spayed in Jan...and I didn't even confine her for that..and she had stitches...but I did put a onesie on her to keep her from messing with the incision. The jumping is the main thing..and she didn't feel like jumping the first 2 days..but after that we had to put things in front of the couch and chairs to keep her from trying. I don't know about boys and neutering...

I'm a worrywart, so I personally would keep him inside and confined, as long as he doesn't go ballistic, tonight and tomorrow. After that, I'd pretty much do whatever you normally do.

The glue is AWESOME! They used it on my Dad after he had major surgery 3 years ago. It actually seemed to heal faster, and it seemed a bit stronger and more durable than stitches.

Is the pup going to be outside? I think it would be o.k. to let
him sleep outside the cage, but inside only & confined to a room.
Maybe the kitchen. That way he could play with a toy if he's bored, but he'd be around to check for problems.



p.s. Good luck with the cough. It's been two weeks & I'm just
starting to feel somewhat human again.:) That stuff's awful.:(

When Oreo was neutered we didn't have to confine him or anything when we brought him home. He kind of limited himself on what he could and could not do by how he felt. We didn't have any problems with him, and he healed just fine.

Thanks for answering - he's outside and I think we'll let him snuggle up - I think the main thing is that he doesn't want to be separated. He cried the whole 30 minutes this morning going to the vets by himself. He seems very glad to be back out there. He's been sleeping sort of curled up under Sherman's chin. But they get really fiesty during the day, so maybe daytime in the crate tomorrow. Glad to hear people have had good success with the glue. Thanks I feeel better about this.

I wouldn't let him husky wrestle or run too much, so maybe confine him when you can't watch him. The only husky I've seen who needed more than a night to recover from neutering was Earle and he has issues with being put under. His liver doesn't process the medications properly so waking up takes him a long time.

Hoodoo bounced out of the back of the clinic, playbowed at the dogs in the waiting room and would have run home if I'd let him! The vet came out to personally assure me that he had used a general anasthetic on Hoodoo!

Isn't it amazing how quickly they become attached? You'd never know he was the new kid on the block! Spot is the same way...we didn't adopt him until he was 2 1/2 and the girls had already been together for 1 1/2 years....yet Spot is the one who cries and cries if he is away from his sisters. None of them liketo be apart, and they attack whoever has been away, but Spot is definately the most vocal about it!

Yep. I would keep him on a leash soo he can't run. I don't think crating him is neccesary. I think the glue eventually dissolves when it is healed.

So far so good, but man, that is icky & painful-looking. I could never work in the medical field, yuck!!! But it's not oozing, so I guess everythings holding. :confused:

I brought him in for half a day, then put him out to nap all afternoon. When they all got up, I saw he & Sherman tussling, so I tied his leash to the gate. He could be with them without being able to run around. I think he's going to be ok. Thanks again!
