Yogurt for infections

I just did a little bit of reading. Most people know that yogurt is good for a dog to eat because of the good bacteria levels -- Well I just found out that yogurt can also be put on infections. I read a post from one person who said her holistic vet reccomended it for scabs inside the ear from itching. She said it kept the yeast levels down and helped it heal. Another person said she put it on her dog's private area for vaginitis and it cleared it up.

Just thought that this is something people might want to know! I know I might need this bit of information in the future. :)

You are soooo right! Yogurt is a natural healer because of it's active cultures. They do their job very effectively. It's good for yeast infection, as a soother for skin rashes and for the gut. I culture my own yogurt here at home so I know what is in it. We all eat it. The dog, the cats and ME!

Yes, I know yorkies are prone to ear infections and on the yorkie forums I am on they swear by yogurt in the ears

Thanks for the wonderful information. I have an 8 year old dachshund with a chronic yeast infection and it breaks my heart to see her scratching so. i know she is miserable. Most of the beautiful thick fur on her neck, chest and ears have fallen off and she looks pathetic. The vet says he can do nothing and i was feeling so helpless and depressed... until reading your tip. What a godsend.

I am putting her on yoghurt immediately and am going to apply some on her sores too. Thanks so much for the information... I'm sure Judy will be grateful for the help.

I've tried several things for my poor Neon, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to try yogurt too. I just hope she doesn't lick it all off before it has a chance to work.

For topical use I'd stick with the plain yogurt, no sense adding sugar to it and help the bacteria or yeast grow.
