I am worried about my dog's eyes

My beautiful GS mix recently developed a condition where his eyes seem to cloud over. This is the problem, it started with the left and by the time I had taken him to the vet the right eye had the same condition. The vet scraped the right eye and now that eye is much worse than the left which he did not touch. He said that he could perform surgery on both eyes which involves pricking the eyes. I am very sceptical about that because of how Ralph's right eye responded to the scraping. could anyone out there who have encountered this problem tell me how to proceed? I would be very grateful.
