I'm fostering for Midwest Dachshund Rescue. Lady couldn't keep her since she's going through a divorce. Funny, she was able to keep Ruby, the other doxie. Opal has a few problems and was too much work. She's a very needy, sweet little girl. Not sure how long I'll have her, but she'll go to a good home with someone who loves her.

OMGosh! What an adorable little girl (in my favourite coat pattern too:D) If I lived anywhere near you, I'd take her...

Oh Robin, she is adorable. What kind of problems is she having. I sure wish I could have her. You do such great work, Robin. Keep us up to date one Opal please.

The problems I was told about are real biggies!
She's very timid/submissive, has submissive urination and not completely housebroken.
She was kept in a cage (true a nice cage, but a cage nonetheless) all day and all night. Doesn't look like she had much socialization. Doesn't even know how to play with toys. Guess I'd be pretty submissive too if that's where I spent the majority of every day.
Doxies are know for submissive urination, there are things you can do to help keep that from happening but sometimes it just happens.
And as for completely housebroken - duh! She didn't come into this world knowing where to potty. She's like a child, it's your responsibility to teach her.
She started playing with Kirby last night - so cute. She loves toys with squeakers- not that we have many left. She hasn't had any submissive urination since I've had her. She had an accident in the house Saturday and one yesterday, but this morning she went out (in the snow) and did her business. Dick and I told her what a good girl she was - her little face just lit up.
I did send a note to her former mom asking if they were still going to keep Ruby. We'll see - but she's not getting this one back. There's nothing wrong with her. She'll be easy to adopt out. I'd keep, but I can't afford any more.

She's adorable! Good luck in finding her a home. :)

She's ADORABLE!! Good luck finding her a good home!! We'll keep our fingers crossed! :)

What a sweet baby girl. I love the name Opal. A good ole
fashioned name you don't hear to much anymore.I do wish her
the best in finding folks who can be patient with her & build her
confidence. She has such pretty eyes. I love this picture.

what a pretty little girl!!!
so sweet looking!

Awwwww!! So sweet. I grew up with doxies and just love the breed. Good luck finding the best home for the sweet girl.:)
Way to go Robin, giving such love and care to the little girl. I'm sure with your TLC, she'll be ready for a forever home very soon.

I am so proud of her. She's doing so well. No accidents in the house since Sunday. Didn't even use the piddle pad yesterday. I blocked off my kitchen and she has her open kennel w/blankie, a little water, a little food and lots of toys. She was just fine last night.
Really wants to play with Kirby, but he's not sure of her yet. They do a lot of posturing - butt in the air and all. From what I can see, I'd say she has the ability to be really good dog if you pay attention to her needs.
Since I brought her home, the only place she wants to be is right with me, but she is starting to go other places in the house without me now.
I sent an e-mail to her former owner asking if she was going to release the other dog and haven't even received any kind of response - my guess is NO.
Waiting to hear from Midwest Dashchund Rescue on what they want to do. I was only supposed to be a temporary foster until another opened up, but we'll see.

She's beautiful! It sounds like she is already making great strides too. What a sweetheart, she wins my heart with just her photos :)

I just received an e-mail from Opal's former owner that she may be giving up Ruby. She's a red long-haired mini. I was supposed to get them together, but they thought one wouldn't be bad. Well, it seams Ruby may be missing Opal too much and is now a problem.
Oh well, I'll take her and love her until I can find a good home for them together.
Interesting note: Last night Dick (SO) said if we didn't already have 5 dogs, we'd keep Opal.
(For him to say that is a big deal - he wasn't sure about this whole idea.)

She is precious!!! What sweet eyes!!

It's official, I'm picking Ruby up Friday night. Our house should be very interesting with 4 doxies in the house.
I'll post a picture when I get her home.

Sounds like thiings are going well, Robin. I can't wait to see some pics of Ruby. Don't forget to post some of Opal also. ;)
