Anyone know why he does this???

Kodie does the most anoying thing,ive never had a problem like this before with my RB girls.

When people come over,he gets SOO excited.:eek: He'll start to lick them to death and try to jump on them.Just bugs the helk out of them for like 30 minutes!I keep him on a leash but he still tries to do this.He tries to bite there arms(gently) but i dont let him.
I haven no idea why he does this.He just gets so excited when new people come over,im glad that he's friendly but he doesnt have to be that friendly!:eek:

Help!And if anyone has any idea's on how to get him to calm down a bit,that would help:)

I'm sorry I can't help you, I have the opposite problem. Millie freaks out over new people, or even people that she's met before. We just rarely have anyone over anymore. :(

I guess you can try basic training.
Rocky gets pretty excited too for about 1 minute. lol
I guess I am lucky in that department.

You are going to need lots/lots of patience too.
When Kodie tries to lick and jump on people
give him a command and pull him off if he
doesn not respond.
He does not get attention/pets unless he sits or
behaves nicely.
Might even try using the treat method.
You need to be consistant and not give up.

If all fails Kodie goes outside or in another room. :p

he's pretty good in basic obediance.When he even starts to jump i pull him down right away/then i tell him "down" but he still does it sometimes.:rolleyes: its very embarrising(spll?)lol.I havent tried the treat method so ill have to try that.And yes he does go into another room if he cant calm down:p

How about you stage it?

Ask a friend to stand outside the unlocked door, while you're inside the house. Ask for a Sit/Stay from Kodie. Hold the leash by your side and command a Watch Me, and tell your friend to come in quietly. While your friend tries to maneuver her way into the house, you command short Watch Me's and click and treat constantly. Ask him to watch you for a few seconds to keep his attention and Jackpot him alot (meaning give him a handful of treats to peak his attention). Kodie will want to jump around and go near your friend, but try to maintain his attention with REALLY nummy treats that he ADORES but rarely receives (meat is a good bribe). Command short Watch Me's while constantly praising him for his attention and Sit/Stay if he stands up. Ask your friends to walk to another part of the house and ignore you and Kodie. After a few minutes, release Kodie but keep him on a Heel. Keep him by your side and command Sit/Stays and Watch Me's throughout your friend's visit. After a few minutes, ask your friend to leave quietly. Keep the visits short and simple. No loud or high-pitched noises and keep everything under control. I hope this helps.

My dog Camen use to jump on people and me. And what i did is that when he jump i would grab his front paws so he was standing up facing me and i would put pressure on his back paws with my foot not that i was harming but enough that it annoy him and he did not like his back paws to be touched. i gave that a week and he hasn't jumped on anyone for a long time. It worked for me.

Gracie gets this way too when my step son comes over..I think she is just so exceited to see someone new..lol..and he is only over once a week or so...

Kodie does this because he wants attention and guess what....he is getting it. Of course it's the wrong kind of attention but Kodie doesn't know that because he has probably never been properly socialized with humans. When someone comes over what do they do? Probably, "oh it's ok, don't worry", and pets pets pets galore. Do I have the scenario down properly?

My first question would be... does Kodie jump on you when you come home? Then... has he ever had basic obedience training? If so what kind? Has his training been consistent or just until the class ended and then no follow up?

The idea of staging visitors is great. I would only caution that the dog needs to know the basics of what is expected out of him before the mock exercises begin. Teach a solid down with rewards. If he jumps on you when you come home, give him the down command and if he listens, reward him. If he doesn't don't acknowledge him in anyway (completely ignore him) until he settles down with proper behavior.

Once you start the mock visit exercises you need to make sure your visitor understands the rules too. NO ATTENTION at all until Kodie settles down. If you must, put him on a down before the visitor comes into the door and keep him there until you release him. It all comes down to having strong basic obedience skills and a very firm down stay!

With a little persistence and a lot of patience you will see remarkable changes in Kodies behavior. Most dogs want to please their owners, it's just they don't have a clue how too. And most of the time it's not the dogs fault but the trainers. You need to learn how to communicate what you want from the dog. Check out some clicker training websites. They hold a wealth of positive training information. Clicking and Treating a dog is the fastest most positive way of dog training for any situation!
