Stray cat problem.

I have a problem with a stray cat that has been living in my oak tree for the past few days. He's a big gray and white tom cat, that seem healthy enough, except he is missing part of his hind paw. Looks like it been that way for awhile, from what I can see.

He's a big Meany. He has attacked Tig twice, hurting his front leg.

Anyway, here's the problem, there that part of me that says keep on feeding him till he learns to trust me more and do my save a cat thing. Then there's that part of me that says, he attacked Tig, hurting him, and that's not fair to Tig or any of my other babies.

So do I call animal control and have then trap him and take him off for the sake of my other guys? Or do I try to save him, get him fix and hope he tames down?

I would call for some professional help on this one. He may be acting out because he might be hurt. (the hind paw thing) Getting him help right now might be a good thing. Just my 2 cents......

Could you keep yours inside until you can work on winning this ones trust and capturing him?

I would say get him help, paw checked, and neutered. This might calm him down and he might not feel so territorial. Sometimes the pain can cause them to be more irritable, just like us humans.

I would say call the vet and have him checked out. He is probably feeling threatened by Tig because of his hind leg.

The Poor Cat,has been,on his own,for a long time,and sees all other Cats,as rivals,for food! Princess,a former Stray,has been,with mev13 years,and still growls,when the other Cats,come near her,when she is eating! We hope,that you can help,this poor Cat!

If you have a no kill shelter in your area then they might be able to help trap him and get him the attention that he needs. I would not call animal control if they will take him to a Kill facility.

If he has been wild for very long he will be hard to tame but it can be done with time and patience.

Thanks guys but I'd have to trap him before I can get him to a vet. So far he been to smart to be trapped, I've tried. He never come down from the oak tree, that we have ever seen, except for the roof where I been feeding him. Honestly I don't belive he's in pain from the paw thing, if you saw it, you can see that he has been like this for years, my opinion from what I seen.

I'm afraid that won't work. With all the damage to our home from the hurricane, house space is at a minimum. The cats are now on rotating inside time as well as the dogs, till we can repair. We all had to give up somethings because of the damage. :(


But at this point I don't think it matters much any more, last night all H#@L broke loose with him and the dogs. So at this point I don't know where the stray is. :( Never had a problem with my dogs and cats before, but for some reason they didn't want this cat around. I'm going out today to see if I can find him.

See there's where the problem comes in to play. A no kill shelter would be my first choice, I really shouldn't take on another pet right now, with everything else going on around here. BUT, all the no kill shelters are full up around here. After 4 hurricanes, they have been overlaoded with pets. They are telling everyone to go to animal control right now also.

Even one of our shelters is so over packed with pets, that they now have some living outside full time and are puting up temp. cover and fencing for them. It's a mess around here.
