Yucky! Is that a telephone pole he's on? I don't know what it is about spiders and phone stuff, but it seems like I'm always finding them when I am working.

Oh My Gosh! I love to work in the yard but that would have done me in. Doubt that I could ever plant anything after seeing one of them up close or cut the grass or anything. I would wind up living in a jungle of a mess!
Tonya I feel for you. I would probably fall off the pole if I ran into one of them.

yep he's on a telephone pole. I was mowing the yard and looked down and there he was. He was absolutely amazing, we moved him out of the yard into the woods across the road.

They are very poisonous, but it won't kill you or anything, you'll just be sick for a few days. Unlike the diamond back rattlesnake we saw a couple years ago in the road in front of our house. Actually Justin said he thinks the spider was a male, and the males are not poisonous.

Yes, they aren't as deadly as people think...unless you are old or unhealthy. We've all (my co-workers and I) been bitten at some point. Generally it just gets big, swollen, and itchy. Sometimes it turns blackish like a bad bruise. I didn't get sick, but some of the guys also got sick.

Egads, it's definitely NOT a male!! Males look like this:

They're not terribly venomous unless you are immune-deficient in some way. my boss was bitten by one a few weeks ago, and while he still has a swollen sopt on his cheek he says it only hurt the first night.

oh, thanks WolfChan. The one we found had brown bans on its legs (hard to see in the picture), that's all we knew about the difference between male and female. I didn't realize they were so different.
